RECYCLING

Cans -
Every time you are ready to throw out that soda or other beverage can, remind yourself that you are throwing away money that could have gone to the Work Campers. Every aluminum can counts. You may drop off your collection in the old kitchen. We are collecting all the way through July. So please recycle the cans!

Ink Cartridges - Reduce pollution, and raise funds. Most of us have inkjet printers at home or work. When you have an empty cartridge next time, do not throw it away-just bring it to St. Andrew's. We have a special recycle box in  the Foyer of the Family Life Center.  St. Andrew's is paid up to $4.00 for each cartridge.

SUNDAY ADULT CLASSES
They Like Jesus but Not the Church
Starts 3/1/09 - Room 102
6 Sessions - $5 w/o book - $20 w/book
DVD and discussion
Jim Liberatore

An overview of the six most common objections
new generations have with church and Christianity
along with the biblical answers to these objections
and examples of how churches are facing this
challenge.

Many people today, especially among younger
generations, don't resonate with the church and
organized Christianity. Some are leaving the
church and others were never part of the church
in the first place. Sometimes it's because of
misperceptions about the church. Yet often
they are still spiritually open and fascinated
with Jesus.

The System Belongs to God

Starts 3/1/09 - Room 106
7 Sessions - $5
DVD and Discussion
Fr. Joe and Bruce Nied

Is the ancient biblical message relevant to our
complex, dangerous world today? We deal with
various powers (government, corporations and
even families) daily. We can't live without them.
But something is wrong; people get caught in the
system. Noted Bible scholar Walter Wink helps us
understand the spiritual forces in these powers
and claims them for God.

Session titles are: The Way Things Are; God
Won't Give Up; What Jesus Really Said; How to
Fight Without Hitting; What if Nations, Companies
and Churches Had Angels?; How You See the
World; and Praying for the Big Picture.

Parenting Your Teenager
Starts 2/22/09 - Room 104
6 Sessions - $12
DVD and Discussion
Debbie Allensworth

Parenting Your Teenager equips moms and dads
to recognize common patterns, plan effective
strategies, and build character. Perfect for
small group Bible study or a seminar, this 4 part
video set (with six lesson plans) features r
elationship experts Les and Leslie Parrott. And,
in 24 gut-level interviews, parents and teens
talk openly about rebellion, conflict, pain, and
identity. Plus, there's a candid chat with
singer Steven Curtis Chapman about faith
and family.
LENTEN POUNDS CHALLENGE
scale2Lent is the 6 week period before
Easter. It is a time of reflection and
life changes, a time for a personal,
spiritual tune-up. Many people take
on a discipline for Lent in order to
become a more spiritually sound
person by Lents end. Twelve (12)
of us are shedding pounds for Hunger Relief
during Lent. We hope you will support us.

Mark Nye, Kristin Hearn, Darrel Borden, Mark
Neitzey, Libby Burns, Chris Wells, Debbie Mayfield,
Debbie Allensworth, Allison Curl, Sandra
Connatser, Tiffani Laverell and Fr. Jim+

will be taking on the Lenten discipline of being
conscious of our weight and those ho do not have
enough to eat.  The bible says that our body is
the temple of the Holy Spirit. We will be giving up
some eating to better care for our temple. What
we ask is that you support us (there will be a
sign up sheet at church) by pledging an amount
per pound (25 cents, $1.00, etc.) with the
proceeds going to a local ministry to end hunger.
Pounds lost will be posted after a weekly weigh-in.
Those who cannot be present will email me their
weight by Saturday so we can post the total
weight lost (or, God forbid, gained) by the group.
Fr. Joe+ will be the official (and totally confidential
and unbiased) weigh-in meister.

Starting weigh-in on 2/22. If you wish, you
may email me your $/lb pledge and I will post it.

Attention All 2008-09 Graduates and those who love them!
graduates
It's that time of year again- graduation is just around the corner.
St. Andrew's would like to celebrate all of our graduates and their families.

If you have someone in your family graduating (high school or college) or has recently graduated (in the past 6 months), please forward their name to us so we can start collecting the information we need for Graduate Sunday this year.

Ready to help us out with information? Click here to email Ryan Perry!

WHAT IS THE PULL TAB PROGRAM?
The Ronald McDonald House of Houston has been
involved with the pull tab program for six years
now! This recycling program is a fun and easy
way for St. Andrew's to become involved with
RMH. The Pull Tab Program brings in an average
of $8,000 a year to RMH!!

Pull tabs DO NOT support medical treatment of
any kind; however, pull tabs DO support the
operations of the Ronald McDonald House of
Houston. This includes purchasing food for the
family food pantry, cleaning supplies, and
providing van transportation for the families to
and from the Texas Medical Center.

Although a simple pull tab may appear to be
insignificant, it is in fact the most valuable part
of the can. Unlike the rest of the can, the tab is
pure aluminum and therefore generates the
most money from recycling. So, when you recycle
your can for our Workcampers (you are recycling,
right?) save the tab for RMH. A milk jug is in the
office for this purpose. You can drop them in the
ffering as well.
SAVE THE DATE!
Bishop Dena (I went to seminary with her) Harrison
will be here for the Second Sunday service in May
on May 17th at 6:00 pm. You may have noticed
that this is actually the THIRD Sunday but
Mother's Day is the Second Sunday and we
don't fight mom, do we?
SUMMER CAMP AT CAMP ALLEN
I did 12 years of summer camp at our Episcopal
Camp, Camp Allen, near Navasota in the piney
woods. Camp Allen is a great place. Kids from
going-into-3rd-grade through high school can go.
We have camp applications in the office. Contact
or come by the office. You owe it to your kids
or grand kids to give them a Camp Allen memory.
