WELCOME RYAN AND ABBY

Ryan and Abby are here and we welcomed them this past Sunday with a good old-fashioned pounding!! Okay, that's not as bad as it sounds - our new Youth Minister, Ryan Perry and his new wife (and we might add, our new secretary for the church this summer), Abby, are now married and both are officially here and part of the St. Andrew's family!

FATHER'S DAY
All Adult Men.....

We have a great Father's Day, Sunday, June 15th, coming up as usual. Come in your comfy clothes (the one's your family hates, but you love) and bring your koosie for us to fill. Bring your lawn chair, too, and sit in the back (where no one will mess with you). You will also get a chance to bless your kids (don't worry, I have written down what to say) whether they are present or not AND you can win Astros or movie tickets.
WATER DONATION

You all responded well to the challenge to supply a year's worth of clean water to someone in need. The donations on 5/28/08 will cover 300 people for a year. Way to go!!! See https://www.water.cc/ for more details.

CELEBRATE DIFFERENCES

Why do some couples' differences pull them apart and other couples' differences draw them together? By God's design, men and women are very different. As couples, we can use our differences to complement and serve each other, or they can be used to drive us apart. Often we try to change our spouses in the name of love. But, we believe a better option is to love our spouses, even if they never change. We feel it is crucial for couples to seek to understand and accept each other's differences. We want you to...Celebrate Differences.

Sunday, June 29th and Sunday, July 6th at 9:15 am in room 102.

Led by Jim+ and Christine Liberatore

MORE ON NATHAN TASKER

Having risen to the top of Australian CCM, with six top ten radio singles, including three consecutive number ones, Nathan was afforded the opportunity to minister abroad. He has spent the last year touring throughout the USA and UK.

In concert and on disc, Nathan Tasker emerges as a storyteller.  His songs cover many aspects of the human condition.  But he is more than just a detached observer; he is an active and vulnerable participant.  "There is a need for people to respond to truth in a way that isn't just about selling CDs. It's about understanding life; it's about engaging with a God who is real, a God who wants us to know him."

At the center of it all is the timeless message of God's love for mankind. "I am always humbled by and thankful for the fact that God's love for me is not based upon my performance, but on the death of His own perfect Son," says Tasker. Armed with impressive guitar skills and engaging honesty he is determined to get his message out to people via energetic live performances as well as through his albums.

His current album, Must Be More (2005), was produced in Nashville by a team heralded as the top of the industry. This included producer Charlie Peacock (who has worked with artists Switchfoot, Nicole Nordeman & Audio Adrenaline), Scott Dente (Out of the Grey) and engineer Richie Biggs.

Also featured are artists Steve Mason (Jars of Clay) and Matt Slocum (Sixpence None the Richer).  "It was quite incredible to work with this team on my songs. They are exceptionally talented people." Needless to say Must Be More shows a dedication to quality songwriting, musicianship and production.

As a performing and recording artist, Tasker has what he refers to as "a commitment to excellence".  He is determined to give of his best at all times whether that be on a stage or in a studio.

"The new album, "Must Be More", represents me writing and sharing very honestly, without inhibitions. I have done a lot of reading about the enormity of the relationship we are in with God, and that's reflected on this CD."

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

Techies - To help create an electronic file of music from worship. Can work with your schedule.

Light Bulbs - Change them out once a month.

Do you care for worship? - The Altar Guild has 3 openings. Serve about once a month.

Flower Delivery - Would you take the altar flowers just once a month and make someone happy? Just drop them off. No visits necessary.

RECYCLING

Cans - Every time you are ready to throw out that soda or other beverage can, remind yourself that you are throwing away money that could have gone to the Work Campers. Every aluminum can counts. You may drop off your collection in the old kitchen. We are collecting all the way through July. So please
recycle the cans!

Ink Cartridges - Reduce pollution, and raise funds. Most of us have inkjet printers at home or work. When you have an empty cartridge next time, do not throw it away-just bring it to St. Andrew's. We have a special recycle box in the Foyer of the Family Life Center.  St. Andrew's is paid up to $4.00 for each cartridge.

MEALS ON WHEELS

We are in need of 3 MORE Meals on Wheels drivers for our next week of deliveries, June 2nd - June 6th (this week!).  I know it is a busy week since it is the end of school; however, we are truly DESPERATE.  If we do not get volunteers to drive the routes, the meals simply will not be delivered to the clients that day.

I have one open route on Wed., June 4th (today!) and both routes open on Thurs., June 5th. I don't know that a church has ever not delivered meals due to inability to get volunteers, but I certainly don't want us to be the first!

If you have never delivered meals, it is not a problem-it takes about 2-3 hours total of your time and is a very important ministry.  I will be glad to give you all the information before your delivery day.  I know we are all busy, but please considering helping out with a donation of your time!

I can be reached at 713-500-9754 or judith.l.bettencourt@uth.tmc.edu.

Thanks,

Judy Bettencourt

THE CASE FOR CHRIST

Leader: Bruce Nied, Consultant, Fr. Joe

Begins: June 8 at 9:15am in Room 107, 6 sessions

The Case for Christ records Lee Strobel's attempt to "determine if there's credible evidence that Jesus of Nazareth really is the Son of God." The book consists primarily of interviews between Strobel (a former legal editor at the Chicago Tribune) and biblical scholars such as Bruce Metzger. Each interview is based on a simple question, concerning historical evidence (for example, "Can the Biographies of Jesus Be Trusted?"), scientific evidence, ("Does Archaeology Confirm or Contradict Jesus' Biographies?"), and "psychiatric evidence" ("Was Jesus Crazy When He Claimed to Be the Son of God?"). Together, these interviews compose a case brief defending Jesus' divinity, and urging readers to reach a verdict of their own.

Please sign up with Bruce Nied at niedbw@comcast.net.

Cost is $6.
IN THE DUST OF THE RABBI

Sunday Morning DVD Bible Study
Begins 7/13/08 for 6 weeks
9:15 am in Room 106

"Follow the rabbi, drink in his words, and be covered with the dust of his feet," says the ancient Jewish proverb. Filmed in Israel and Turkey, these powerful DVD sessions explore what it meant to follow Jesus in the first century-and what it means to follow him today.

Session titles include:
1. Galilee-When the Rabbi Says, "Come"
2. Galilee-When the Rabbi Says, "Go"
3. Priene-The Presence of God: A Counter-Cultural Community
4. Priene-Living Stones

SOLOMON'S PORCH

Solomon's Porch (named after King Solomon in the Bible) is a new coffee shop that opened in West Pearland over the holiday. I hope you will try it out.

Solomon's Porch is an outreach ministry of one of Christian neighbors, The River Church and Pray Pearland. Please give them a try. They are behind the Blood Center on Broadway (9223 Broadway, Suite 125; 713.482.3960).

If you drink coffee, why not support their ministry as well. Also, if you missed taking a bulletin to use with your coffee coupon, we are keeping a stash of them at church and you can pick one up next Sunday. Their website is www.solomonsporchcoffeehouse.com.

Blessings!

MACY'S PEARLAND TOWN CENTER

Macy's Pearland Town Center is opening for a special preview shopping day and charity benefit on Saturday, July 26, before the store opens to the general public.  Only ticket holders will be admitted to the preview event.  The ticket will have a coupon for 25% off most purchases that day.  St. Andrews is selling $5 tickets for it, and we get to keep all the money to help support St. Andrew's Ministries!  Macy's takes no cut on ticket sales.

Macy's supports local charities through this event and we help Macy's by drawing people to their new store.  This is similar to the event held when the Baybrook store opened, which we also participated in.  Ask anyone who went, it was great fun!  Tickets go on sale June 19.

How can you help?
·  Volunteer for a two-hour shift selling walk-in tickets at Macy's on July 26.  We need four people.
·  Take tickets to sell to your co-workers, friends, neighbors.  Remember, St. Andrew's keeps all the money from ticket sales!!
·  Buy a ticket and turn it in at Macy's on July 26.  The group with the most tickets turned in on Charity Day gets a $2,500 bonus!

Reply to ednroxie@comcast.net or call Roxie Woodward at 281-489-4325 to volunteer, or for more information.
