MOVIE NIGHT
Join us on Friday, May 23rd at 6:30 pm(movie starts at 6:55 p.m.) to see the new movie, "The Chronicles of Narnia:Prince Caspian."  We will meet at the Cinemark Theater in Silverlake (behind Target). You are responsible for buying your own tickets but please let me know if you are coming so we'll know how many to expect.
HUNGRY-LONELY
Imagine being hungry or lonely in Pearland. Hard to believe, huh? So much of the good life here. So many people. Countless people in Pearland are alone and cannot shop or cook a hot meal any more. They are someone's mom or dad, aunt or uncle, grandmother or grandfather. A few of these people are lucky enough to be served a hot meal by Meals on Wheels once a day. Some are not so lucky because the need outstrips the volunteer drivers. St. Andrew's has, for decades, delivered meals one week every two months. People count on us.

THE CASE FOR CHRIST
Leader:  Bruce Nied; Consultant, Fr. Joe.

Many of the sessions in the book, written by Lee Strobel; the legal editor of the Chicago Tribune, and a convinced atheist.  He cross-examined experts, with doctorates from Cambridge, Princeton, Brandeis, and other top-flight universities, who are recognized experts on Jesus.  Some examples:  "Can the 'biographies' of Jesus be trusted?"  "Does archeology confirm or contradict Jesus' briographies'?" "Is there any reason to believe the resurrection was an actual historical event?"  Each participant will get a copy of the book.  Join us for the first session Sunday, June 1, 9:20 a.m.  Room 107.
A "POUNDING'
Help us to welcome our new Youth Minister, Ryan Perry and his wife, Abby.
By helping us stock their pantry of their new apartment with an old fashioned "pounding" on Sunday, June 1st.

A pounding is traditionally giving a pound of something that you have to help stock someone's pantry as they move into their home. Please don't feel bound by the one pound rule, but think about staple food items or cleaning supplies that you have found useful (feel free to bring extras of something you already have on hand.)

Here is a list of items they might find useful:

whole wheat flour
all purpose flour
sugar
brown rice
whole wheat pasta
flour tortillas
onions
potatoes
extra virgin olive oil
whole coffee beans
brownie mix
kleenex
cake mixes
tortilla chips
low sodium chicken broth canned
canned diced tomatoes
paper towels
powdered sugar
brown sugar
chocolate chips
chocolate pudding
Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds
garbage bags

Bring your items with you to church on June 1st and we will celebrate and welcome Ryan and Abby. Thank you!

THANKS
Thanks to Terry Brown for hosting the Singles Group on May 15th. Terry cooked chicken and burgers and invited the First Baptist Singles Group to join us. About 15 were present and we had a great time.

Alex Ferguson
Brooke Mayfield
Ashley Meachen
Bryson Rushing
Kasey Sampson

Dear Lord,
Please bless these graduates as they go out into the world to make it a better place, while they pursue their dreams. Gently guide them, lead them, show them Your way to success and happiness through service to others, as they maximize their own potential.  Fill them with joy when they reach their goals.  Strengthen them, as they deal with life's obstacles, and show them that every challenge
is a path to character development.  Give them the intelligence to make a plan for their futures. Give them the patience and persistence to pursue their ambitions.  Most of all, give them caring hearts to look for ways to help the people they meet on their life's journey.  Encourage them and lift them up now, as they spread their wings into a clear sky of limitless opportunity.  Let each and every graduate here be wrapped in the warmth of Your infinite love, and let Your wisdom show hem the way to make the most of their lives.  In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

WHY GO TO CHURCH?
A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them...  So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this... They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today.  Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!" When you are DOWN to nothing.... God is UP to something!  Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible! Thank God for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment!
NURSERY
Andrew's Ark, our kid's nursery ministry, was recently reorganized by Elizabeth and Winston Huh. Both are having their other callings expanded and, after talking with me, will retire from this important ministry, effective 5/15. They will finish an ID tag project after this date.

Please thank them both for caring about our kids. Please consider if you might be called to help as a liaison between the office and our childcare workers as well as developing systems for childcare that meet the needs of the church better.

WHAT IS "QUADS?"
Okay, it does sound like illegal drugs. But it's not. "Quads" is a year long training up of disciples who follow Jesus Christ. "Quads" comes from the fact that 4 people have agreed to meet for a year in order to grow spiritually. "Quads" is based on the workbook, Discipleship Essentials. Here is a description of Discipleship Essentials.

Discover the fullness of life in Christ.  We grow in Christ as we seek him together. Jesus' own pattern of disciple-making was to be intimately involved with others and allow life to rub against life. By gathering in threes or fours to study the Bible and encourage one another, we most closely follow Jesus' example with the twelve disciples.

Discipleship Essentials is a tool designed to help people follow this pattern Jesus drew for us. Working through it will deepen our knowledge of essential Christian teaching and strengthen our faith.  Each week contains the following elements:
·   a core truth presented in a question-answer format
·   a memory verse and accompanying study
·   an field-tested inductive Bible study
·   a reading on the theme for the week
·   questions to draw out key principles in the reading
This material is designed for groups of three or four. It can be used successfully as an individual study.

On May 8th, Jim Liberatore, David Allensworth, Chris Barry and Winston Huh started a group. On May 20th, Jim Liberatore, Rebecca Barger, Joe O'Steen and Bendel Rushing started another group. Debbie's group is in formation.

If you would like to know more or start a group or individual study, contact Jim+ frjimbo@msn.com

YOUR KROGER CARD
Did you know that your old Kroger Card is NO LONGER VALID!!!  The Kroger Share Card program is over, kaput, blotto.   St. Andrew received a check for $713 for this year. In order to receive a great big check like that for next year, YOU NEED TO SIGN UP WITH THE NEW NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR PROGRAM.  St. Andrew is a registered organization in the new Kroger Neighbor to Neighbor donation Program that started May 1, 2008.  Each time participants shop at Kroger using their enrolled Kroger Plus Card, Kroger will contribute a percentage of eligible purchases to the Kroger Neighbor to Neighbor Fund.  You tie in your Plus Card with our code. No more carrying 2 cards!  To get started, please present the St Andrew barcode to a Kroger cashier for scanning with your Plus Card.  Once your card is scanned with the St Andrew barcode, it will be active for the remainder of the program year May 1, 2008 through April 30, 2009.  So let's "go Krogering" and earn St. Andrew a share!  Thanks for doing this. It will buy a lot of communion wine or light bulbs or coffee.

RECYCLING

Cans - Every time you are ready to throw out
that soda or other beverage can, remind
yourself that you are throwing away money
that could have gone to the Work Campers.
Every aluminum can counts. You may drop off
your collection in the old kitchen. We are
collecting all the way through July. So please
recycle the cans!

Ink Cartridges - Reduce pollution, and raise
funds. Most of us have inkjet printers at home
or work. When you have an empty cartridge
next time, do not throw it away-just bring it
to St. Andrew's. We have a special recycle
box in the Foyer of the Family Life Center.
St. Andrew's is paid up to $4.00 for each
cartridge.
