FAMILY PICTURES

We will be making a new pictorial directory for St. Andrew's and we want you to be included. We are fortunate to have a professional photographer in our midst, Kim Christensen, and she has graciously offered to take pictures of individuals or families (if yours is here) on some upcoming Sundays. We plan on having her available for pictures on May 11 and 18 after the 8:00 and 10:30 services, so come ready to smile and be a part of our new directory.

HELP THE SAN ANGELO KIDS IN BRAZORIA COUNTY

The shelter housing some of the San Angelo children in Brazoria County needs help! They were not expecting to accept the number of toddlers and preschoolers that they got and so they are short on: 1) HUGGIES BRAND ONLY DIAPERS (due to allergies) sizes 2,3,4, & pull-ups. 2) PAPER PRODUCTS-plates, spoons, cups and bowls. They do not need toilet paper.

COOKING
Do you enjoy cooking?
Do you want to cook healthy meals for your family? Do you have enough time?

I live a very busy life and have found that cooking several dishes at once saves our family time and money. I'd love to share some of my tips. Join me 5/22/08 from 6:30-8:30pm in St. Andy's kitchen. Bring $5 and go home with a dish!

ASTROS

It's back! Episcopal Night at the Astros. Join 4,000 other Episcopalians (and sit with the St. Andrew's folks) when the Astros meet Milwaukee on Wednesday, June 11th @ 7:05 pm. A priest friend of mine, Ralph Morgan, will throw out the first pitch. We get great field box seats at a reduced cost and get to sit together in a block as a church. Tickets are $22.50 if we order before the deadline. I am buying six. Your non-church friends are invited as well to join you. How about you? I need your request and a check for the amount of the tickets before May 6th to get the best seats.

Jim+ frjimbo@msn.com

P.S. I have it on good authority that in the unpublished Dead Sea scrolls, Jesus and his cousin John the Baptist played semi-pro ball for the Nazareth Narthex team. Jesus got a lot of great parable material from the game of baseball. ;)

MENS FRATERNITY

Did you miss the first Men's Fraternity offered this past Fall? It was great. JT Cole is going to repeat it starting, Saturday May 10th at 8:00 am until 9:30 am at Jake's in Silverlake. The cost is $25. Those who have taken MF already can repeat a session if you wish for no cost. RSVP to JT at jtc@kozas.com. He needs to order workbooks for you.

PUMPKIN PATCH

I just finished speaking with the Pumpkin Patch Fundraiser representative and planned out our delivery dates for pumpkins for this coming October. While I was on the phone with her, I asked how we ranked nationally this past year (having been in the top 80 last year). She informed me we came in 17th in the Nation!!!

NEW YOUTH MINISTER

My name is Ryan Perry, I am a 22 year old guy born and raised in (and all around) Houston, Texas. I have a passion for random movie quotes, various kinds of music and art, and the outdoors. Also, at the end of May, I will be marrying my fiancée, Abby. She is such an amazing person and as much a part of who I am as any of the ministry that I am able to do. She is a 23 year old graduate of the University of North Texas, certified in Art Education, and by far the smartest person I know.

While at St. Andrew's I will be able to return to college to complete what will hopefully look like a degree in Psychology, although my major keeps transitioning on a pretty regular basis. I have a few years experience in various types of youth settings (anything from summer camps to residential treatment centers) and believe that youth ministry is a very valid and important part any church. Abby and I are so blessed to be able to step into St. Andrew's and be a part of your family. We look forward to meeting all of you soon!

-Ryan

CHURCH OFFICE NEWS

I am sad to say the Holly Warnowicz will be leaving to return to New Jersey in mid-June. We will miss her. Holly has been a friend and parishioner of mine for over 16 years. When I know more about her last Sunday, I will let you know more. Please express your thanks.

Abby Sorrels, soon to be the wife of our new youth minister, Ryan Perry, will be taking Holly's place this summer as Administrative Assistant. Abby will be applying for a teaching job for the fall and I will hire a new Administrative Assistant at that time. Abby will start with us on 5/29.

KID'S HARBOR

Sisters and Brothers,

Wow, what a response! On Sunday, April 27th we sent $500 to Kid's Harbor to assist the FLDS kids from Yearning for Zion who are currently in Brazoria County. Way to go! You have a generous spirit.

Jim+

THE SHELTER HERE IN BRAZORIA COUNTY THANKS YOU! We were able to collect $500 for the children from San Angelo and the director informed me that they were

going to use the money to buy pajamas for the children. Due to their specific clothing requirements, they are having to buy lots of plain long-johns so that they remain fully covered at night. She also informed me that the children came without any clothing so this money is GREATLY APPRECIATED! The director was impressed with the short amount of time it took our congregation to come up with the donation & interestingly, she knew us as the "pumpkin" church. Way to go St. Andrew's! It is amazing how much we can do when we pool our

resources for good.

ANDY'S SINGLES

If you are single, divorced or widowed, here is a night for you. We are going to have a joint dinner between the First Baptist Church (FBC) singles and the newly formed singles group at St Andrew's Church. The dinner will be Thursday, May 15th at 7:00 PM at St Andrew's. If you need childcare, RSVP to Jim+ @ frjimbo@msn.com.

We are going to cook out hamburgers, if you would like to bring a side dish, chips or drinks it would be great, but not necessary. The main thing is bring you and God will provide the rest!

The FBC group will provide words of experience for our new group and join us in a great time of fellowship with other fellow believers in Jesus Christ.

Come to church on May 18th to decorate and laminate your Flat Andy for vacation!

MELALUECA FUNDRAISER

Did you know for the past six months St Andrew's has been enrolled as a charitable organization with Melaleuca and received a monthly check that supports the church?

What is Melaleuca?

Melaleuca: The Wellness Company is an international manufacturer and marketer of unique health, home, and personal care products.

What kinds of products are available?

Melaleuca has developed over 350 world-class products using natural alternatives to grocery and drugstore brands, designed to help consumers live healthier lives.  These products are safer for your home and family.

Why does St Andrew's receive a check?

For every Melaleuca Preferred Customer signed up under St Andrew's organization, the church earns commissions on every product point produced in the organization.

What are the benefits of Melaleuca products?

Better quality, safer ingredients, more economical, convenient ordering, all delivered directly to your doorstep.

Here are just a few examples of what the Melaleuca Charitable Organization Program has done for other non-profit groups:

A community support group earned nearly $10,000 last year to support their local     fire department.  They are so confident that this will happen again this year they have already committed $10,000 again.

A local support group for charter schools in the Midwest has grown their charitable organization to the point that they are currently receiving over $34,000 per year - a direct benefit to their charity thanks to the idea of making a shopping decision to use better, safer products.

A small Parent Teacher Organization started working with Melaleuca's Charitable Organization program less than a year ago and now has more than 200 families supporting this group, generating a monthly check of around $575.  That's $6,900 per year.

Want to find out more?

Come to a Melaleuca presentation at St Andrew's Family Life Center, Thursday, May 15th, at 7:00 pm, and find out how you can enhance your life, receive up to $100 in Loyalty Shopping Dollars your first 5 months and up to 10% every month thereafter that can be redeemed for FREE products, AND support your church at the same time!

Let me know what you think. RSVP to beth@jeanallan.com

Blessings!

Beth Bishop

RECYCLING

Cans - Every time you are ready to throw out
that soda or other beverage can, remind
yourself that you are throwing away money
that could have gone to the Work Campers.
Every aluminum can counts. You may drop off
your collection in the old kitchen. We are
collecting all the way through July. So please
recycle the cans!

Ink Cartridges - Reduce pollution, and raise
funds. Most of us have inkjet printers at home
or work. When you have an empty cartridge
next time, do not throw it away-just bring it
to St. Andrew's. We have a special recycle
box in the Foyer of the Family Life Center.
St. Andrew's is paid up to $4.00 for each
cartridge.

Cell Phones for Soldiers - The cell phones

are recycled for cash and the proceeds
are used to buy prepaid calling cards for
our soldiers serving in the Middle East.
Bring your cell phone and battery along
with anything else that goes with them
to the drop-off boxes at church.  One is
in the Foyer of the Family Life Center and
one is in the hallway of the Worship
Building by the Coke machine.  For more
information, please visit their website @ www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com
