| FAMILY PICTURES |
|
|
We will be making a new pictorial directory for St. Andrew's and we want you to be included. We are fortunate to have a professional photographer in our midst, Kim Christensen, and she has graciously offered to take pictures of individuals or families (if yours is here) on some upcoming Sundays. We plan on having her available for pictures on May 4, 11 and 18 so come ready to smile and be a part of our new directory.

| THANKS |

|
Thanks to the Pack 468 Cub Scouts for weeding the flowerbeds. They look great.
Thanks to JT Cole for putting together a great Workcamp Car Wash. And thanks to you for bringing your cars and supporting the kids. They made over $800. AND Andrew Casey is THE MAN. He is not a Workcamper but he worked (hard) all day washing cars. Next wash is May 10th.
Thanks to Ed Woodward and David Allensworth who cleaned out the shed on the property sold next door. The owners had let us use the shed for our lawn equipment for over 15 years. |

| YOUTH MINISTER |
|
|
In an answer to prayer, I am pleased to announce that Ryan Perry has accepted my call to serve at St. Andrew's as Assistant to the Rector for Youth Ministry, effective May 3rd. A number of you met him and his fiancée this past weekend. Ryan will serve us well.
Our ability to have a youth minister at this time is due to a grant from the Diocese of Texas. Without this grant, we would not be able to afford a Youth Minister this year. Our promise in accepting this grant was to increase our Sunday attendance (come more often and add new members,) and increase our giving. The latter we are currently doing and and we adopted a balanced budget for 2008. We are still working on the former with attendance at around 204 a week with our goal being 250.
Our 4/23/08 Dinner has to do with us fulfilling our remaining promise to the diocese. Thank you for your prayers and support.
Welcome, Ryan! |

| Debbie Allensworth Scholarship Fund
for Children & Youth |
|
|
I was very surprised and blessed to be recognized on my 10th anniversary here at St. Andrew's with the incredible honor of having a scholarship for children and youth started in my name. We have been working hard, behind the scenes, to get this fund organized and ready to start doing business. I am thrilled to announce 3 new members of the Scholarship Board, they are:
Anne Harland, Bendel Rushing and Roxie Woodward I very much look forward to working with this team to do as much good for the children and youth of St. Andrew's as possible with this scholarship fund. We will start taking applications for the scholarship on May 10th of this year. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of:
-
Financial need
-
Date of last application
-
Total available funds
These scholarships will be offered to the children and youth of St. Andrew's and will be made for a portion of the total cost of the event. To be elligible, the events must be sponsored by either St. Andrew's or the Diocese of Texas. Our intent is that this will be a sustaining, not depleting, fund and we will have envelopes available for individuals to make donations beginning in May. Please watch the next newsletter for a link to the application form, as well as a link to more information on the scholarship. Thank you. Debbie Allensworth |

Bishop Alexander Garrett in Philadelphia (a true story)
At Philadelphia, when Bishop Garrett got up to speak, he was introduced by a noted layman in this way:
"I have visited Texas myself, I consider it the most God-forsaken country on the face of the earth. I hope you will give the poor Bishop, who by the cruelty of the Church is expected to reside there, a patient hearing and a generous response."
Bishop Garrett got up and said, "It is true my friends that we have some undesirable citizens in the State of Texas, but we are catching them as fast as we can and sending them back to the various States of the Union in which they received their early training. My friend need not be alarmed. All who belong to him will return in due time." |
| RECYCLING |
|
|
Cans - Every time you are ready to throw out
that soda or other beverage can, remind
yourself that you are throwing away money
that could have gone to the Work Campers.
Every aluminum can counts. You may drop off
your collection in the old kitchen. We are
collecting all the way through July. So please
recycle the cans!
Kids Stuff - Cleaning out your children's toy
box and play area in order for the new stuff
from Christmas to fit in? How about donating
the stuff to Shriners Hospital. They take
stuffed animals, toys, working electronics,
videos, books and cds. You may drop off
the donations at the church. Just place the
stuff behind the desk in the church office.
This would be greatly appreciated.
Ink Cartridges - Reduce pollution, and raise
funds. Most of us have inkjet printers at home
or work. When you have an empty cartridge
next time, do not throw it away-just bring it
to St. Andrew's. We have a special recycle
box in the Foyer of the Family Life Center.
St. Andrew's is paid up to $4.00 for each
cartridge.
Cell Phones for Soldiers - The cell phones
are recycled for cash and the proceeds
are used to buy prepaid calling cards for
our soldiers serving in the Middle East.
Bring your cell phone and battery along
with anything else that goes with them
to the drop-off boxes at church. One is
in the Foyer of the Family Life Center and
one is in the hallway of the Worship
Building by the Coke machine. For more
