GIVE BLOOD

Craig Allen needs blood. He has leukemia and need a lot right now. Craig is a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church on Scarsdale. Craig's pastor, Randy, is my neighbor.

On March 30th, Mt. Olive is having a Blood Drive for Craig. Let's help. I have sign up sheets with me for the 3/30 drive at Mt. Olive. You can come to church and go to Mt Olive and give or give at Mt. Olive and then come to worship at St. Andrew's.   You may directly donate blood to leukemia patient Craig Allen by going to St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital and mentioning that you are donating for Ronald Craig Allen. You may do this any time the SLEH Blood Bank is open.

Please consider showing our love for a fellow Christian with the gift we cannot duplicate.  See me on Sunday to sign up.

WORKCAMP UPDATES

Thank you all for your support of the Workcampers.

The Workcamp Garage Sale was a masterful piece of ministry. Over $2,500 was raised for the trip (more than any garage sale in the past). We want to thank all who donated, worked and purchased.  Special thanks to Ed and Roxie Woodward and Amanda and James Maslonka who organized this event.

The final tally for the Work Camp Quarter-a-Mile Challenge was $614.77 ($77.27 ABOVE our goal!!) The final results in the competition between the Work Camp Teams are: Junior High = $107.  41 Senior High = $209.54 Adults = $289.24 (yes, there is an additional $8.58 not counted in those totals - this was money contributed after the results were finalized but will still go towards Work Camp)

EASTER IS MARCH 23, 2008

Easter is the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox.  This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify Passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar.

Based on the above, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) but that is pretty rare. This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives! And only the most elderly of our population have ever seen it this early (95 years old or above). And none of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier!

The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones that were around for that!). The next time it will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now).  The last time it was on March 22 was 1818. So, no one alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year!

EASTER BBQ AND PARTY

On Saturday, March 22 we will be having our annual Easter BBQ and Party starting at 5:30 p.m.

Don't miss out on this fun event. We will be eating great BBQ and enjoying some fun and games for all ages. Bring your whole family and either a side dish or a dessert to share.

The first worship service of Easter is immediately following at 7 p.m. - the Easter Vigil is a powerful and inspiring start to the Easter celebration. Come and join us and bring a bell to ring in Easter!

Please RSVP for the BBQ so we can be sure to have enough brisket.

EASTER EGG HUNT

This year's Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Easter Sunday (March 23) morning at 9:15  - this is a change from the past and we want to make sure we get the word out to as many people as possible.

We will still have egg hunts for all ages (yes, even you adults). Wonderful prizes and plenty of candy for everyone. This is a perfect time to bring your friends with you to church!!

GEORGIA NEITZEY RECOGNIZED FOR SERVICE

Fifty-six outstanding, young student leaders from across the state were recognized for serving their schools and communities at Education in Action's Texas Independence Day Recognition Ceremony and Reception on March 2nd. Two of the honorees attend school in Pearland ISD. One of these was our own Georgia Neitzey of Pearland Junior High South.

Her Project:  Head Start Christmas Gift Drive - Georgia found each of the 85 children at the Head Start Center a sponsor. Each of the children were given a toy, an outfit and a pair of shoes for Christmas. Georgia also helped the children get to see Santa.  Georgia stated, "I loved the privilege of getting to work with amazing volunteers and helping people in need."  Georgia made the project more than just gifts. She made each person feel special.

Each of the student honorees participated in the Lone Star Leadership Academy, a weeklong leadership development program offered each summer by Education in Action.  As graduates of this program, they were invited to join Education in Action's alumni program, the Lone Star Youth Leadership Council, to receive leadership training during the school year to support them as they created and led service projects in their schools/communities.

MATTHEW WINS STATE ON HIS BIRTHDAY

Congratulations, Matthew Murray!  Matthew earned 1st place honors in the Boys 10 and under, 50yd breaststroke at the Texas Age Group Swimming Championships this month on his birthday!  Over 1,000 of the state's fastest swimmers ages 8-14 competed in boy's and girl's events for their claim as State Champion.

Matthew also placed 4th in the 100 yard breaststroke and improved his state rankings in the 100 yd individual medley and 100 yd freestyle events. Matthew's 50 and 100 yard breastroke times, 36.01 and 1:18.80 respectively, were fast enough to achieve AAAA status, which is the top time standard USA Swimming establishes to represent the fastest 16 swimmers in the country for each age and event.

Matthew Murray is a 4th grader at Massey Ranch Elementary and serves as an acolyte at the 10:30 worship service.

DO YOU HAVE FINANCIAL PEACE?

Statistics: 55% of Americans sometimes or always
worry about money. 70% of Americans are living
paycheck to paycheck. 90% of divorces are
attributed to financial stress.

Financial Peach University will make you laugh and
cry and change the way you look at money. It will
motivate you and better yet teach you the baby
steps to reain your financial footing.

Financial Peace University will start on Sunday,

March 30 from 6:00 till 7:30 pm. Childcare provided.
In this time we will talk about:

·         Getting out of debt

·         Living on a Plan (Budget)

·         Relating with your Spouse on Money

·         Investing

·         Retirement

The cost of this 13-week New Edition positive life
change is $105.00 per family. Your new life of peace
will be well worth it. This cost is good for any
Financial Peach class anywhere and covers both
spouses, if applicable. Mark Neitzey, graduate of
Financial Peace, will facilitate the class. Contact
Mark at mneitzey@vandykbaler.com if interested.
YOUTH MINISTER

Sisters and Brothers, by the generous support of the Quin Foundation, we have the funds to hire a part time Youth Minister. The harder part will be to find this person.  I ask you to pray that God will rise up the right person for us and I would like you to consider people you know who might be appropriate to contact for the ministry or families who might have acquaintances who would be interested. The person must be a Christian with a passion for youth. Beyond that, I can train them.

KIDS' WORSHIP
God Rocks! is age appropriate worship for kids ages 3 years old to 2nd grade. Please have older kids remain in church rather than going to God Rocks! The narrower age spread makes the ministry work better for our kids. Kids 3rd grade and up may apply to Alicia Cox at aliciamcox@sbcglobal.net to be helpers. However, the teams currently are full. There is a waiting list.

We do need adult team members as all teams are not at their full capacity. Contact Alicia to help. We ask all parents who use God Rocks! to consider helping once a month. Training is supplied and a background check is required. Is God calling you to help?

Parents who wish to help start worship for kids older than 2nd grade should contact Fr. Jim+ at frjimbo@msn.com. We want a group like this for our kids. Once we have the people to do it, we will.

RECYCLING

Cans - Every time you are ready to throw out
that soda or other beverage can, remind
yourself that you are throwing away money
that could have gone to the Work Campers.
Every aluminum can counts. You may drop off
your collection in the old kitchen. We are
collecting all the way through July. So please
recycle the cans!

Kids Stuff - Cleaning out your children's toy

box and play area in order for the new stuff
from Christmas to fit in? How about donating
the stuff to Shriners Hospital. They take
stuffed animals, toys, working electronics,
videos, books and cds.  You may drop off
the donations at the church. Just place the
stuff behind the desk in the church office.
This would be greatly appreciated.

Ink Cartridges - Reduce pollution, and raise
funds. Most of us have inkjet printers at home
or work. When you have an empty cartridge
next time, do not throw it away-just bring it
to St. Andrew's. We have a special recycle
box in the Foyer of the Family Life Center.
St. Andrew's is paid up to $4.00 for each
cartridge.

Cell Phones for Soldiers - The cell phones

are recycled for cash and the proceeds
are used to buy prepaid calling cards for
our soldiers serving in the Middle East.
Bring your cell phone and battery along
with anything else that goes with them
to the drop-off boxes at church.  One is
in the Foyer of the Family Life Center and
one is in the hallway of the Worship
Building by the Coke machine.  For more
information, please visit their website @ www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com
