PRAISE AND ACCOLADES

Congratulations, Rob! Rob Rumph is a newly minted Mentor for Education for Ministry (EFM.) EFM is a theological education by extension from our Seminary in Sewanee, TN. Rob is now ready to build a class. Ask him about EFM.   RobRumph@HOUTEL.COM

A special thank you goes to Antrina Cooper for delivering all of the pet food last week to the Pearland Animal Shelter.

The Animal Shelter was very appreciative.

Matthew Loudermilk, our organist and grad student at Rice, played the McDowell Piano Concerto No 2. Opus 23 with the Clear Lake Symphony on February 23rd. He got a standing ovation and many of the parishioners present marveled at the intense work of his fingers on this difficult piece. Way to go, Matthew!

CAMPAIGN OF KINDNESS TALLIES

Wow! We donated a total of 461.5 pounds of dog, cat, and kitten food.  Thank you!

We collected a total of 2810 diapers and 1760 wipes for Casa! Great job everyone!!

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that your church serves as a meeting place for all sorts of community activities? We are being good stewards of our church campus and offering the gift of the use of our facilities. You may know that we have 3 scout troops. You may not know that Alcoholics Anonymous, Take off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS), Needlework Guild, and Backporch Children's Acting Workshop are among our sometimes tenants.

Starting in July, we will be a satellite campus on Sunday evenings of a Hispanic Episcopal church, San Mateo.

We are blessed and we bless others.

KIDS' WORSHIP

God Rocks! is age appropriate worship for kids ages 3 years old to 2nd grade. Please have older kids remain in church rather than going to God Rocks! The narrower age spread makes the ministry work better for our kids. Kids 3rd grade and up may apply to Alicia Cox at aliciamcox@sbcglobal.net to be helpers. However, the teams currently are full. There is a waiting list.

We do need adult team members as all teams are not at their full capacity. Contact Alicia to help. We ask all parents who use God Rocks! to consider helping once a month. Training is supplied and a background check is required. Is God calling you to help?

Parents who wish to help start worship for kids older than 2nd grade should contact Fr. Jim+ at frjimbo@msn.com. We want a group like this for our kids. Once we have the people to do it, we will.

SINGLE, DIVORCED, WIDOWED

Come share a dinner with Fr. Jim and Christine and see what we might do in a "Flying Solo" Ministry. You must RSVP for dinner and childcare.  Bring a side dish or dessert at 6:30 pm on Friday, 4/4/08. Dinner served at 7:00 pm. Childcare available, but you must RSVP.

MEN OF ST. ANDREW'S

The men of St. Andrew's will meet on the 2nd Thursdays in room 102 for food, fun, and fellowship. Join us. Let me know if you will come so I can have enough food. I have plenty of fun and fellowship. Next meeting at 6:00 am. Done by 7:15 am on Thursday, March 13th. Mark your calendar.

ST. ANDREW'S ACADEMY

St. Andrew's Academy needs teachers (part-time positions).  This is a pre-school program.  Must be HS grad or GED.  Experience helpful but not necessary.  BY APPT ONLY.

Call Anne at 281-485-3843 on Tuesdays or Thursdays

HANDY PERSON NEEDED

We need someone to place a TV up on a wall mount in one of our classrooms in the Family Life Center. The bracket is already in place and the TV is here and just waiting for some loving person or persons (2 people could probably do this easier than one) to come and secure it to the bracket.

If you think this might be you, please contact Debbie Allensworth at debbie@standrewspearland.org or 281-485-3843. Thank you!

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

Help Your Fellow Brazoria County Citizens - In case of a public health emergency the County Health Dept. may need to distribute preventive medications to all the residents of Brazoria County within a 48 hour period. At this time the population of our county is almost 300,000 people and growing. The Brazoria County Health Dept., with its staff of 12 employees, cannot accomplish this enormous task by itself. The county has a plan to accomplish this important mission, but it will require 2500 volunteers. At this time we have almost 1000 volunteers identified and almost 800 of these have been trained, but we still need more. The volunteer orientation is only 3 hours, and no medical training is required. There is no cost to the volunteer to participate.

Help Local Youth and Adults - They need Community Service hours. We get free campus care assistance from those who need to do Community service for Honor society or minor infractions. Help someone who may be in the same place as a family member one day. Help St. Andrew's as well.

Musical Offering - Play an instrument? Sing? We would love to have you perform something during worship as a special offering.

Office Help - Can you give even an hour a week to help out in the office? We'd love to have you here.

Substitute - Our church has great Sunday School Teachers. We want them to have time off once in a while. You can help. Will you be available once in a while to sub? Curriculum and support teachers provided.

Kid's Worship - We have openings for adults who care about the worship lives of our kids. Once a month.

Usher - Would you like to help those who attend worship? Service once a month.

Audiovisual - God is calling one person to coordinate a team of audiovisual people for 10:30 am worship. Most of the team is already in place.

STRATEGIC MISSION GRANT

We received a Strategic Mission Grant from the Diocese of Texas for $25,000 the next year for a Youth and Family Minister. This is as a result of the vestry's hard work and parishioners coming to church (we need to exceed 200 a week) and excelling in giving (we had a surplus last year!).

Please pray we find a candidate. Please continue to be here on Sunday. Not only is it our promise to God, it brings us other blessings we cannot produce ourselves.

PALM SUNDAY

One of the most important days in the life of the church is coming up, Palm Sunday, March 16th. This is the day we remember Jesus' death for our sins, after we mark his triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We will have a dramatic service, lots of palms and a special activity.

During the Christian Education hour from 9:15 - 10:10 am, we will be making Anglican Prayer Beads. All the materials will be supplied (most are free - some premium materials will be available for purchase if you want to make a fancier set). You are going to be here anyway. Why not make this a family and friend time and improve your prayer life? Kind of like an Episcopal Rosary. Meet in the parish hall at 9:15.  If your family plans to participate, please RSVP to Debbie so she can have enough supplies available.

Please also contact Debbie if you are interested in being a table leader.  She needs some help with this.

EASTER BBQ AND PARTY

On Saturday, March 22 we will be having our annual Easter BBQ and Party starting at 5:30 p.m.

Don't miss out on this fun event. We will be eating great BBQ and enjoying some fun and games for all ages. Bring your whole family and either a side dish or a dessert to share.

The first worship service of Easter is immediately following at 7 p.m. - the Easter Vigil is a powerful and inspiring start to the Easter celebration. Come and join us and bring a bell to ring in Easter!

Please RSVP for the BBQ so we can be sure to have enough brisket.

EASTER EGG HUNT HELP NEEDED

This year's Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Easter Sunday (March 23) morning at 9:15  - this is a change from the past and we want to make sure we get the word out to as many people as possible.

We will still have egg hunts for all ages (yes, even you adults). Wonderful prizes and plenty of candy for everyone. This is a perfect time to bring your friends with you to church!!

I am looking for a few people to help put out the eggs for the egg hunt - if you are available at 8 a.m. on Easter Sunday (please, only people attending the 10:30 service that day - going to church comes first!). We need as many hands as possible to get out the eggs in time for our 9:15 start. Reply to me at debbie@standrewspearland.org if you are interested in helping out.

CAMPAIGN OF KINDNESS

Each year, during the Lenten season, we embark on a
Campaign of Kindness to show Jesus' love throughout
our community. This year we will have 5 collection
Sundays for charities in our area, and we will be
handing out our Kindess Cards again and encouraging
everyone to throughfully do Random Acts of Kindness
throughout their weeks.

Sunday, March 9th    Teddy Bear Sunday
Collection for Shriner's Hospital

We will be collecting new stuffed animals to be
distributed to children in Shriner's Children's
Hospital in Houston.

Sunday, March 16th (Palm Sunday) Book Orders
for Head Start

We will be taking book orders to be donated to the
Reveille Head Start Center.
VESTRY NEWS

Wayne and Julie Yeargain have purchased a home in Jacksonville, Texas. Wayne is our Senior Warden, the chief layperson of the church. He works closely with me to lead St. Andrew's. Unfortunately, that means they will be moving soon. As a result, Wayne has tendered his resignation to me.

Julie and Wayne have been such faithful servants of Christ at St. Andrew's. We will miss them. I will let you know when their last Sunday with us is to take place (if they know). Please pray for them and thank them.

I have asked David Allensworth to take over the duties of Senior Warden for the remainder of Wayne's term. He, also, could use your prayers and support.

CONFIRMATION PICTURES

Anyone who took Confirmation pictures is welcome to send them to me.  I would like to use them for the 10:30 power point this Sunday, March 9.  Thursday (tomorrow) is the deadline.  If you would like to drop off a CD of them, you are more than welcome to.

Thank you,

RECYCLING

Cans - Every time you are ready to throw out
that soda or other beverage can, remind
yourself that you are throwing away money
that could have gone to the Work Campers.
Every aluminum can counts. You may drop off
your collection in the old kitchen. We are
collecting all the way through July. So please
recycle the cans!

Kids Stuff - Cleaning out your children's toy

box and play area in order for the new stuff
from Christmas to fit in? How about donating
the stuff to Shriners Hospital. They take
stuffed animals, toys, working electronics,
videos, books and cds.  You may drop off
the donations at the church. Just place the
stuff behind the desk in the church office.
This would be greatly appreciated.

Ink Cartridges - Reduce pollution, and raise
funds. Most of us have inkjet printers at home
or work. When you have an empty cartridge
next time, do not throw it away-just bring it
to St. Andrew's. We have a special recycle
box in the Foyer of the Family Life Center.
St. Andrew's is paid up to $4.00 for each
cartridge.

Cell Phones for Soldiers - The cell phones

are recycled for cash and the proceeds
are used to buy prepaid calling cards for
our soldiers serving in the Middle East.
Bring your cell phone and battery along
with anything else that goes with them
to the drop-off boxes at church.  One is
in the Foyer of the Family Life Center and
one is in the hallway of the Worship
Building by the Coke machine.  For more
information, please visit their website @ www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com
