BOY SCOUT SUNDAY - FEB 3RD

February 3rd is Boy Scout Sunday. All current and former Scouts, Cub or Boy, should wear their uniform. Hmmm, a 40 year old wearing a Cub uniform may be ungraceful. If that's the case for you, come in street clothes. Leader, wear your uniforms. We are proud of our Scouts. Girl Scout Sunday is later in the year.

LOCK-IN -- FEB 8TH
Do you want your child to have fun learning more about God's love?  Then sign your child up for this year's K-2 Lock-in!!!  It will be held Friday, February 8th in St. Andrew's Family Life Center.  The Lock-in is for children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade from 6:00 p.m.-11:59 p.m.  We will eat dinner, play games and have fun.  If you need more information or you would like to help, please contact Katie Cordes at 281-412-7294 or at cordesgotmail@sbcglobal.net.
THE BIBLE, PRAYER AND YOU
Join Jim+ for the next 201 Class on Sunday, January 27th at 9:15 am in room 104. 201 introduces you to regular use of the Bible and  Prayer. Both of these Christian actions are part of the promises we make at baptism.

Please RSVP to Jim+ frjimbo@msn.com so we can have materials for you. If you are joining St. Andrew's or being confirmed, 201 is part of your preparation.

BAPTISM

The next preparation class for those who wish to be baptized, those who have children to be baptized or those who are expecting a child will be on Saturday, February 9th at 9 am. Childcare is provided if you RSVP.

This class is required for baptism in the church.  Let me know. Jim+ frjimbo@msn.com

CONFIRMATION CLASS FOR ADULTS

The preparation class for adults for Confirmation (2/17/08 @ 10:30 am) will be on Saturday, February 2nd at 9 am in room 102. Childcare is provided. The class will end with the practice for the worship service. We will be done at noon.

See you there. Jim+ frjimbo@msn.com

PRAYER SHAWLS

Knit? We have had a great Prayer Shawl Ministry. Many of you have received one at an important time. We currently have no one knitting these shawls and the ministry may soon end. Would you like to knit for the comfort of others? No quotas or deadline. Transform your care into a shawl for the care of others. Let me know.

TODDLERS & TWOS

Reminder:

We have recently added the Toddlers and Two's class to Rock University.  Kara and Chris Barry, along with substitutes, Gabby Forrest and Kristin Hearn, would like to welcome all children of this age and their parents to check out the fun.  The class serves as a transition for children who have outgrown the nursery, but aren't quite ready for the preschool class.   The class is set up with a variety of different centers that offer hands-on activities to introduce and reinforce the monthly theme.  The class meets in room 309 every Sunday from 9:15-10:15.  We look forward to seeing new faces!

YEARNING TO BE FREE?
Want to help someone "yearning to be free?"

A few years back, St. Andrew's assisted refugees from the war in Kosovo, the Binaku family, with help in getting settled in the U.S. They now thrive in Virginia as Americans. Christine helped Mrs. Binaku with shopping for food in America (with no English at the time!) We furnished an apartment for them with our used stuff and helped them get employed and into school (2 girls.) All got into English classes. This was done under the sponsorship of Episcopal Migration Ministries from our won church.

Would you like to know more about how we as a church might help people currently living as refugees and "yearning to be free?"

Let me know. There is an informational meeting in Houston in February.

THANKS & ATTA GIRL

Thanks to Merv Taylor for getting the walls redone and repainted in room 104.

Thanks to Bob Hoefler for supervising our community service people (we are a big community service site) and straightened the attic as well as picked up stuff around the campus.

Kate Maslonka recently donated 10 inches of her hair to Locks of Love (www.locksoflove.com) The group provides hair for kids who lose theirs due to illness. Atta girl, Kate. That's Jesus Work to think of others first!
RECYCLING
Cans
-
Every time you are ready to throw out
that soda or other beverage can, remind
yourself that you are throwing away money
that could have gone to the Work Campers.
Every aluminum can counts. You may drop off
your collection in the old kitchen. We are
collecting all the way through July. So please
recycle the cans!

Kids Stuff - Cleaning out your children's' toy

box and play area in order for the new stuff
from Christmas to fit in? How about donating
the stuff to Shriners Hospital. They take
sfuffed animals, toys, working electronics,
videos, books and cd's.  You may drop off
the donations at the church. Just place the
stuff behind the desk in the church office.
This would be greatly appreciated.

Ink Cartridges - Reduce pollution, and raise
funds. Most of us have inkjet printers at home
or work. When you have an empty cartridge
next time, do not throw it away-just bring it
to St. Andrew's. We have a special recycle
box in the Foyer of the Family Life Center.
St. Andrew's is paid up to $4.00 for each
cartridge.

Cell Phones for Soldiers - The cell phones

are recycled for cash and the proceeds
are used to buy prepaid calling cards for
our soldiers serving in the Middle East.
Bring your cell phone and battery along
with anything else that goes with them
to the drop-off boxes at church.  One is
in the Foyer of the Family Life Center and
one is in the hallway of the Worship
Building by the Coke machine.  For more
information, please visit their website @ www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com
