MILITARY PRAYERS
HOLIDAY HARVEST FOOD DRIVE

Bring food to church for others for Thanksgiving. Make our basket overflow! Let's fill the pantry of Christian Helping Hands, 3402 Swensen at Old Alvin Road.

CHH distributes anywhere from 6,000 to 10,000 pounds of products WEEKLY! Traditionally, the holidays means a higher tonnage of food is needed. Bring food the first three Sundays of November.

Basic "everyday" foods are preferred!

"Special needs" products (no sugar added, low sodium, etc.)

Hygiene products

It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult. - Seneca

PLAY TICKETS

Fr. Joe is getting a group together to go to see the play "The Busy World is Hushed" at the Main Street Theater on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 3:00. The play was written by Keith Bunin and was inspired partly by his visit to the Rothco Chapel in Houston. The play centers on Hannah, an Episcopal priest and scholar who's translating a newly discovered gospel that may predate the Big Four. It questions through dialogue many avenues of faith, but is not preachy. Tickets are $20 - $35. Wadie Williams is going to arrange for us to go to a restaurant before the play. Please RSVP to Fr. Joe frjoe@standrewspearland.org or Barbara Kinsey bp_kinsey@yahoo.com by Wednesday, Oct.17 so that we can purchase the tickets and make lunch reservations.
CAN YOU SPELL EPISSKOPUL?

Hey, you can learn. Mark your calendar for All Things Anglican: An Introduction to Why You are an Episcopalian. Two consecutive Sundays. 9:15 am in room 104, Sundays 12/9 and 12/16. Get your shopping done on Saturday and join me Sunday. RSVP Jim+ at frjimbo@msn.com.

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

Yuck! - Have you seen the carpet outside room 102? It has never been shampooed. Never! And, it looks it. Would you be willing to shampoo the carpet in the 102 area? It is the equivalent of a few rooms in your house. Help make a great impression.

We have a small delivery to make to Shriner's Hospital.  Anyone willing to deliver them would be greatly appreciated.

Cans - The Jr. and Sr. Sunday School group is recycling soda cans.  Help them out by bringing in your soda (empty) cans.  They can be dumped into the recycling barrel by room 114 in the Worship Building.

Musical Offering - Play an instrument? Sing? We would love to have you perform something during worship as a special offering.

Altar Help - Do you care about our worship? Want to know more about Episcopal worship? Do you want to help make it happen? Once a month ministries are open in worship set up. We will train and love you. Once a month for a few hours.

Audiovisual - God is calling one person to coordinate a team of audiovisual people for 10:30 am worship. Most of the team is already in place.

GOT BIBLE?

Do know your way around Missoula, Montana better than the Bible? Well, let's fix that. I am offering an introductory class - Bible 101 for those of you who are woefully uninitiated to the Bible (we will use assumed names - no minutes will be

taken). RSVP so I can have materials. Sundays 11/11 and 11/18 at 9:15 am sharp in room 104. Bring a Bible (unless it is one of those that weigh over 10 pounds).

PARISH RETREAT

Friends,

The Parish Retreat is a month and a half away!

The Parish Retreat is a weekend get-away at

Camp Allen near Navasota. We have nice cabins
and it is a really fun and relaxing time.

We will be having a formation meeting for setting

a theme, developing costs, and delegation of tasks
on Monday, October 22nd at 6:30 pm with
dinner and childcare (if requested). In order to do
this right and not have all the work fall on to two
or three people, we need 7 people to take on
leadership with me. I have some who have said
that they are interested in this, but we need a
few additional people.

Areas of Service include (all must be covered)

AMAZING FAITHS DINNER DIALOGUES
 Thursday, November 15th
 7:00pm-9:30pm

The Amazing Faiths Project invites you to
participant in the Houston Dinner Dialogues on
Thursday, November 15, from 7:00 p.m. to
9:30 p.m. Around the table, over a simple dinner,
people of diverse backgrounds will break bread
together and share their personal thoughts about
life, faith, spirituality, and living and working
together on this earth. Join us as we build a
movement that brings people of diverse faith
traditions, and cultural backgrounds together to
learn about one another through dialogue,
conversation, and fellowship; to create an
atmosphere of understanding, respect, and
reconciliation; and to stand as witnesses against
the climate of intolerance, religious bigotry, and
hatred that abounds in the world today.

HAVE DINNER, CHANGE YOUR LIFE, TRANSFORM
THE WORLD.

PLEASE JOIN US FOR DINNER!

PUMPKIN STORYTELLERS

Imagine sitting in the pumpkin patch on a bright sunny day (cooler than today, of course) and reading a story to a group of bright, cheery children who are thrilled to be out of school for an hour and enjoying St. Andrew's Pumpkin Patch.

If this sounds like fun to you, we're looking for a few storytellers to volunteer for a couple of shifts during the month of October. No special skills required other than willingness to talk to children, tell them a little bit about our pumpkin patch and read them a couple of stories.

We need people who would be available at least one hour one weekday next month to join our storytelling team. We provide the stories, coloring sheets and stickers for the kids, you provide the love.

If you are interested, please contact Debbie Allensworth at debbie@standrewspearland.org or 281-485-3843. Thank you!

will only do one.

Please read carefully.

Let me know by return email the following

"Which- Oklahoma, North Carolina, both,

or neither, are you willing to commit to right
now to go to Work Camp?"

I need names of both adults and youth who will

go from your family. Note that the two are on
different weeks.

To preview NC - go to North Carolina

To preview OK - go to Oklahoma

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
You Know You're A Texan If...

You use the phrase "fixin' to" almost daily.

Someone you know has used a football schedule to
plan their wedding date.

You can properly pronounce the towns Mexia,
Waxahachie and Mesquite.

You know that the true value of a parking space is
not determined by the distance to the door, but
by the availability of shade.

A Mercedes Benz in not a status symbol.  A Chevy
Silverado 3500 Extended Cab is.

You have had this conversation:

  "You wanna Coke?"
  "Yeah."
  "What kind?"
  "Dr. Pepper."

RECYCLING

Help St. Andrew's recycle inkjet cartridges, reduce
pollution, and raise funds. Most of us have inkjet
printers at home or work. When you have an
empty cartridge next time, do not throw it away-
just bring it to St. Andrew's. We have a special
recycle box in the Foyer of the Family Life Center.
St. Andrew's is paid up to $4.00 for each cartridge.
PRAISE AND ACCOLADES

A big thank you to Russell Meachen and Holly
Warnowicz who cleared out bad pumpkins and
moved others to prepare for last Saturday's
delivery. It was hot and messy but necessary
work. Bless you!

Congratulations to Matthew Murray who qualified
for State in swimming!
CONGRATULATIONS

Janet and JT Cole are proud parents of Julia

Anne, born 10/11/07 at 9:45 pm. She and mom
are at home. Julia weighed 7 lbs. 10.8 oz. and
was 20" tall. Share your congratulations and
prayers.
WHY PLEDGE?

It has been almost two decades since the

General Convention of the Episcopal Church
affirmed the tithe as the minimum standard of
giving for Episcopalians. Some parishioners at
St. Andrew's are giving ten percent or more of
their income to the church, while others have a
plan to work toward a tithe, increasing their
pledge by one or two percent a year.

So why pledge? Our pledge is a thank you note
to God. When we fill out a pledge card, we are
thanking God for all the blessings He has given
us. We are stewards of God's bounty, as
everything we have comes from Him.  Pledging is
showing God how much we appreciate the
boundless love he has for us. When we pledge,
we are making a promise to God to support His
church and His teachings as declared to us by
His son, Jesus Christ.

As Senior Warden, I urge you to read the
stewardship materials being sent to you, and
prayerfully consider what you will write on your
note to God. Imagine what we as a parish
could do if every member returned to God
that which He has asked of us.
