Airport Avenue Demonstration

Gardens Dedicated

 Sustainable Landscape Templates For Homeowners

A dream realized, the Airport Avenue Demonstration Gardens for Santa Monica are here!  Dedicated to the idea that anyone can practice sustainable landscaping if they are only shown the way, these gardens go a step further.  Santa Monica's demonstration garden program provides free designs, parts specifications, support from participating stores, installation guidelines, a mobile website, and long-term maintenance tips.

The demonstration gardens are made up of three custom designs that blend seamlessly into one another and are aptly named Play, Relax, and Entertain.  Each design offers a unique feature that fits our Santa Monica lifestyle and climate conditions.  Not only do these gardens save water, eliminate urban runoff, reduce air pollution and green waste, infiltrate rain water, provide habitat for birds, bees, and butterflies, they also provide a place for residents and visitors to enjoy nature and get the inspiration and tools they need to install similar landscapes at home.

The demonstration garden is conveniently situated for easy viewing, there is free parking available, and all the details required for installation are available on-line.  Even shopping for plants and materials have been made easier with the development of a smart phone website.

To get you started, there are a variety of rebates and funding levels to choose from like the Sustainable Landscape Grant up to $5,000 to redo your entire landscape; or the Parkway Cash for Grass Rebate up to $2,000 to curb the sprinklers in the parkway; or the Drip Irrigation Rebate up to $1,000 to replace the sprinklers around your shrubs with drip irrigation. The City of Santa Monica has $600,000 in funding available to help residents and businesses install their own sustainable gardens.  The city was awarded $310,000 in grant funds from the California Department of Water Resources for these types of projects.

Honored Landscape Designers:
