Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel Receives
Green Business Certification

Newly Renovated Luxury Hotel Goes the Extra Green Mile

Santa Monica, CA - Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel is a newly renovated luxury resort located in the heart of Santa Monica. This chic and contemporary beachfront property offers outstanding service and amenities, as well as a long history of environmental responsibility. Going the extra green mile, Loews is now the first luxury beachfront hotel in Santa Monica to become Green Business Certified.

The Green Business Certification (GBC) program is a growing network in Santa Monica that is helping to improve the local economy, and the city's quality of life. Commercial businesses, located in Santa Monica with a minimum of two employees, are eligible to participate in the program thatrecognizes businesses that have gone above and beyond in their sustainability efforts.

The Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel features eco-friendly materials such as low-VOC (volatile organic compound) paint throughout the facility, as well as systems that promote water and energy efficiency (i.e. exterior lights that turn on when the sun sets, and turn off with sufficient daylight). To reduce paper, Loews sends information to potential customers on flash drives so they can be viewed without printing. And, combining the best of nature and nurture, the Loews' 7,000-square foot Ocean Spa & Fitness incorporates green building and design elements, with signature organic treatments and spa products.

Loews was one of Santa Monica's first hotels to participate in the city's food waste recycling efforts, and the hotel's produce comes from local companies and the Santa Monica Farmers Market.

Loews initiated a food composting program back in 2007, and excess food is donated to local charities such as Meals on Wheels, reducing the amount of waste sent to the landfill.

Social responsibility is also a priority for Loews. The hotel gives back to the community in many ways including donating excess uniforms, bedding and supplies to the Ocean Park Community Center.

Santa Monica's Green Business Certification (SMGBC) is good for two years at which time a company can re-certify.  This year both the Sheraton Delfina Santa Monica, and The Ambrose have renewed their green certification, and their commitment to sustainability.

SMGBC is a unique collaboration between the City of Santa Monica, the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Development Center at Santa Monica College, and Sustainable Works, a non-profit environmental education organization. Now in its 5th year, SMGBC recognizes Santa Monica business that have incorporated sustainable practices, and significantly reduced their environmental impact. The City of Santa Monica hopes that consumers will show their support for the program by frequenting businesses that display the GBC decal in their window.
