Coastal Cleaup 2008Join Heal the Bay and Get Involved in Coastal Cleanup Day!
 
Over 11,000 volunteers from all over L.A. County will take action to rid our beaches and inland waterways of unsightly and harmful debris. Coastal Cleanup Day (CCD) is an international event with over ninety-one countries around the world participating, making it one of the largest volunteer efforts on the planet!

Coastal Cleanup Day is a fun way for individuals, neighborhoods, schools, community and company volunteer groups to get involved and demonstrate their commitment to healthy water.  So bring your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to participate with the thousands of volunteers around the world in taking a stand against ocean pollution on Coastal Cleanup Day.

Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus and Pasadena's renowned Art Center College of Design will showcase visually stunning versions of the next generation of transit at a special futuristic event -- Bus of the Future.

Meet the design team, view large-scale concept images and a motion graphic presentation, and vote for your favorite design from 10AM - 11AM, then enjoy a lively discussion of what the future might hold for transit with design, environmental and transit experts at the symposium Transforming Transit at 11AM. Blue ribbons will be awarded to the winning designs at 12:30PM.

Join us for Open Season, and animated comedy about a couple of lovable critters surviving in Timberline National Park.

Boog is a happily domesticated 900-pound grizzly bear who has his comfortable world as the star of a local nature show turned upside down when he is stranded out in the woods at the beginning of hunting season. He must join forces with a fast-talking wild mule deer named Elliot until Beth, a local forest ranger, can find them. Rated PG

Global Green USA's Green Building Resource Center, a partnership between Global Green USA and the City of Santa Monica, is celebrating its success! 

The resource center is thrilled to show the public a newly remodeled center, highlighted innovative green building products and to announce upcoming new professional development series for building professionals and an array of exciting green building programs for the public.

The Open House will celebrate the 4th -Year Anniversary and remodel with a flurry of give aways, great food, a raffle of eco-friendly prizes and special presentations of successful local green projects. Come celebrate with us for a evening of fun!

The purpose of this Newsletter is to provide Santa Monica residents, businesses and organizations with the information and resources needed to help meet the goals of the Santa Monica Sustainable City Plan.

Thirteen years ago Santa Monica launched the Sustainable City Plan, a visionary plan for the community's future. With wide community participation, the Plan was developed to help us make positive contributions to our community's environmental, social and economic viability.

Since its adoption, the Sustainable City Plan has been responsible for many positive changes in the community in eight goal areas:
