Fall Standardized Testing in Grade 3
October 1 - October 11
Our students in grade 3 are being tested in accordance with the district's standardized testing schedule, as follows:
Starting on Monday, October 1 through Thursday, October 11, the third grade students will take the Otis Lennon School Abilities Test (OLSAT) and the Stanford Achievement Practice Test (SAT). The SAT includes eight sub tests which assess various academic areas including: reading comprehension, language, word study, spelling, vocabulary and mathematics.
How can you help? Please make every effort to have your child maintain perfect attendance, get a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast. Also, we ask that you impress upon your children how important it is that they do their best on each and every question.
Finally, although we allow for test make-up time, we ask that you avoid making any appointments for your child during this testing window. If you have any questions about this testing, do not hesitate to contact your classroom teacher or Assistant Principal Abby Ostruzka. |

Are You Interested in Helping Our Teachers in the Classrooms? If you are a parent willing to commit to volunteering one hour per week for at least eight weeks in an OGS classroom this is your chance. You will work directly with the children in an academic subject area determined by the teacher (you will not be in your own child's grade). Principal Raneri will work with the teachers to match parent volunteers to classrooms.
Contact: Annika KennonPlease include your availability (days and times) and subject interests/preferences. If you can read music, please let us know that as well. Traveling Art at OGS Over the past two weeks, each classroom at OGS participated in the district's Traveling Art program. Trained parents and volunteer docents visited for a brief discussion of curriculum-related artworks. The students were encouraged to scrutinize the artwork and think about art as a personal experience with no right or wrong answers. They did an amazing job - there might be some future art historians in our halls! The artworks and information about them can be found on the Greenwich Public Schools website. |

Health and Wellness National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day Friday, October 12 Check out what's cooking at school by joining your children in the cafeteria. Experience the school food environment first hand and give a big thank you to the cafeteria staff. See how school lunches are meeting new federal nutrition standards, including double the fruits and vegetables, more whole grains, less unhealthy fats and salt, and new age-based calorie ranges. This is a great opportunity to start a discussion about healthy food choices, while sharing part of the school day with your children.
Healthier bodies lead to healthier minds, so make a lunch date with your kids on October 12.
