From the Office
Reminders
Arrival: The front doors open promptly at 8:30 am. Unless parents and/or students have a prearranged teacher meeting, attend early bird club, scheduled band, chorus or orchestra lessons, no one is admitted through these doors, as students would be unsupervised by school personnel. Safety is always our first priority.
Dismissal: Any changes in your students' usual dismissal require a written note given to your child's teacher at the start of the school day. Phone messages to the school office regarding dismissal changes are not permitted except in true emergency situations.
After School Programs: Please be aware of the days your child attends the Afters programs, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, or Ambassadors, so your child does not need to call home for pick up on those days. Pick-up details should be pre-arranged. Additionally, your children do not need a note to change the dismissal procedure when attending these programs.

From Our School Nurse
When dealing with head lice, we follow the recommendations of highly regarded health agencies such as the Center for Disease Control, the American Academy of Pediatrics, Harvard University School of Public Health, and the National Association of School Nurses. If you suspect your child has lice, you must contact Judith Finneran, our School Nurse. Once you have contacted Judith here is what we will do as per the district nursing guidelines:
- Parent calls or sees Judith to share suspicions.
- Judith will check your child's head for confirmation of lice. She keeps this confidential.
- She will answer any questions you may have about eradication.
- If your child does have lice, she will check the heads of any siblings and the other students in your child's class.
- A child with active lice will be sent home for treatment.
- When two or more students are found to have lice in one class, we will send home a letter informing the parents that lice has been found in the class. The students with lice are not identified.
- Once your child has been treated for lice, you are to return to Judith so she can confirm that there are no active lice and she will determine whether or not your child can return to school.
- Typically, once a child is treated they are able to return to school. The goal is to minimize any disruption to their learning.
- Approximately two weeks later, Judith will re-check the child in case of re-infestation. If evidence is found of re-infestation, the parent/guardian will be notified and will receive further instruction from Judith.
Please remember, in order to help we need to hear from you first. Nurse Finneran will conduct a session for parents on how to check for lice on October 4, 9:30 am, in the Nurse's Office. |
