Sawing & Piercing
New 1-Day Class!
9 am to 6 pm September 11, 2008
$185 + $25 kit

This is your chance to learn to saw and pierce complex patterns with ease and confidence!

We all use a jeweler's saw for many steps in making jewelry. Through the process of piercing, goldsmiths can delicately pierce intricate and complex designs in metal. Aside from being an essential skill for all metal artists, piercing is not the only task accomplished with a saw. Others include filing and engraving with a saw blade. In this class students learn to layout precise designs directly on metal and to transfer printed designs from paper, as they learn to perfect their skills. Students practice in copper and brass and then execute a complex pierced pendant in fine silver. 8 hours Register Now!

wire wrap Wire Wrapping

$339 + $75 kit

Michael David Sturlin has spent many years mastering wire working techniques. This class will take wire wrapping to new levels in both the quality of execution and in origniality of design.

Wire wrapping is a popular technique that enables anyone to make jewelry with just a few basic tools and using readily available materials. Since the work is accomplished entirely with cold connections and soldering is not necessary, this technique is highly portable and endlessly adaptable.

Class covers the tools and process of wire wrapping; wire sizes, shapes and temper; basic elements and structures; advanced designs and principles. Working with copper and silver, students construct a variety of projects including: swirl rings, band rings, bezels, pendants, prong settings and cuff bracelets with a cabochon. 16 hours Register Now!

Forging is one of the oldest, most basic and most effective metal forming techniques. In this class, expert instruction is followed by your own hands on exploration of the process. Learn to feel comfortable using a hammer, anvil and mandrel as you create classic and creative rings in copper and silver. 16 hours Register Now!

Here is some recent feedback we received from a student about Michael:

"Michael is a very thoughtful and patient instructor who really knows his stuff. He was able to get us going quickly to please the Type A's among us, but also gave us the benefit of all the subtle tricks and tips he has developed over his many years of practicing the techniques. As with all Revere instructors, it was clear that his long practical experience gave him the knowledge to speak with authority on his subject. I look forward to to the opportunity to study further with Michael at Revere."

Radical Jewelry Makeover
Donate Your Old, Unwanted Jewelry Before
September 11, 2008!

RJM logo

RJM is a community-based mining and reuse project designed to create awareness of and improve access to sustainable and ethical precious metal sources. You can participate by donating your old, unwanted jewelry so it can be reworked by Revere Faculty and selected students into contemporary designs that will be exhibited and sold at the cutting-edge San Francisco gallery, Velvet da Vinci. Donations are tax-deductible and donors will receive discount coupons, which will be available and redeemable at the gallery during the exhibition. Sale of "makeover" jewelry will benefit Ethical Metalsmiths' efforts to educate and connect people with responsibly sourced materials.
Bring your donations to Revere by September 11, 2008. Download a donation form, or fill one out at the school.
Revere will host a three-day Radical Jewelry Makeover Open House from October 13-15, 2008. Students and the public are welcome to drop by to observe and take a tour as faculty and selected students transform donations into new and exiting pieces.
