Greetings!
We are delighted with the positive feedback we have received about our new newsletter. It is a "work in progress" so continue to send your comments and suggestions. So many wonderful people have come to the Academy over the years and this newsletter gives us the ability help our community grow.

We have been busy around the Academy, so we are happy to be able to keep you up to date on the latest news. It is such a great way to stay in touch!

I speak for Alan, Ronda, Glenda when I say we enjoy hearing what past students are doing, so especially if you are out in the world doing work related to jewelry, drop me a line and let me know what you are up to. Feel free to pass this newsletter along to anyone you know who is interested in jewelry.

Bench Tips from Alan Revere
Winding a Spool Around Glass
Wrapping Wire Tip
Whenever you anneal a length of wire, it is advisable to wind it into a tight coil first, so that it can be heated evenly. If not, the flame can easily overheat an errant strand of wire and melt it. To prevent that, the coil needs to be a tightly wound hank with no loose wires. Making a tight coil is an art of its own and here is how to begin.

Instead of using just your hands or even a metal can or cylinder, select a round glass jar to use as the spindle. Hold the wire and tightly wrap almost all the wire, leaving about two complete circles of wire. The coil now slips off the jar easily because of the rounded bottom. Hold it tight as you use the remaining wire to whip around the coil. Now you have a tight bundle, which will heat more evenly during annealing.

The Revere Academy is a professional jewelry school where master craftsmen pass on their skills and knowledge to students at all levels. Beginners and hobbyists as well as experienced working bench jewelers come for dozens of short, intensive classes (just 3-days!) and diploma programs lasting 2-4 months. I hope you will be able to join us for a class soon!

Sincerely,
