The American Bakers Association commends the House of Representatives for taking the first steps toward ending subsidies for corn ethanol. The amendments passed early Saturday morning move to stop taking food crop acreage and turning it into fuel crop acreage. ABA commends Rep. Flake (R-AZ) and Rep. Sullivan (R-OK) for their leadership. Their two amendments will prevent funding for corn ethanol infrastructure and prevent EPA from implementing its decision to increase ethanol in gasoline. ABA along with a diverse coalition of business associations, hunger and development organizations, agricultural groups, environmental groups, budget hawks, and free marketers have been urging Congress that taxpayers should not foot the bill for ethanol infrastructure.
