Baking Industry Leaders to Hold Special Forum at IBIE ELDC SBW Event
ABA's Executive Leadership Development Committee (ELDC) and the Society of Bakery Women (SBW) will hold a very special ticketed event during IBIE in Las Vegas. "Baking Industry Leadership Forum," will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28, 5:00-6:45 p.m. at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Pat Callaghan, Pepperidge Farm Inc., George Deese, Flowers Foods, and other baking industry leaders to be announced will participate in a panel discussion moderated by ELDC Chairman Joe Marx, D. Thomas & Associates, and SBW President Theresa Cogswell, BakerCogs LLC. Panelists will discuss core strengths needed by effective leaders; the importance of peer groups like ELDC and SBW to foster young executives; the value of involvement in ABA to achieve industry success and build valuable networks; and will provide their seasoned insight on the outlook of the baking industry's future. You do not want to miss this special event!

ABA Hosts Best Practices in Returnable Asset Management Seminar

Plastic container theft and misuse have been recurring industry issues for years. Recently, the losses have reached whole new levels.  Recent efforts have begun to stem the losses including law enforcement initiatives, legislative initiatives, multi-industry cooperation, and media coverage.   It is imperative for bakers to attend this session at IBIE that addresses this growing epidemic.

The committee focuses on topics such as air, water, waste, energy costs and management systems. Additionally, the committee has spent a significant amount of time working on better understanding sustainability initiatives implemented at the bakeries and most recently how to create a sustainability dialogue in the baking industry supply chain.  The committee also directs its attention to the energy and environmental regulations and legislation directly related to the costs of bakery operations.

The Grain Foods Foundation will host a nutrition panel discussion at this year's International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE) in Las Vegas, on Sept. 27 at 11:00 a.m. 

Speakers include:
  • Shelley Case, RD
  • Glenn Gaesser, PhD
  • Sylvia Melendez-Klinger, MS, RD, LD
Shelley Case will be discussing the gluten-free diet trend; Dr. Gaesser will discuss the importance of carbohydrates for weight control and Sylvia Melendez-Klinger will visit the topic of minority nutrition and the importance of enriched grains.
