Pastor TelemaWe Have Great Worth Because We Bear His Image

The greatness of God assures the worth of mankind. God, the all-powerful Creator, cares for his most valuable creation--people. When we look at creation, we often feel small by comparison. To feel small is a healthy way to get back to reality, but God does not want us to dwell on our smallness. Humility means proper respect for God, not self-depreciation.

When we look at the vast expanse of creation, we wonder how God could be concerned for people who constantly disappoint him. Yet God created us only a little lower than himself or the angels! The next time you question your worth as a person, remember that God considers you highly valuable. We have great worth because we bear the stamp of the Creator. Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. (Genesis 1:26-27)

Because God has already declared how valuable we are to him, we can be set free from feelings of worthlessness. God gave human beings tremendous authority - to be in charge of the whole earth. But with great authority comes great responsibility. If we own a pet, we have the legal authority to do with it as we wish, but we also have the responsibility to feed and care for it. How do you treat God's creation? Are you using your resources wisely?  God holds you accountable for the stewardship of time, talents, and treasures entrusted to you.

Having riches carries great responsibility. Those who have money must be generous, but they may not be arrogant just because they have a lot to give. They must be careful not to put their hope in money instead of in the living God for their security. Even if we don't have material wealth, we can be rich in good deeds. No matter how poor we are, we have something to share with someone.
Pray for us; for we are confident that we have a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honorably. (Hebrews 13:18)

Sincerely,
