Avoid Stroke By Making Smart Lifestyle Choices

A recent Research Report from the ICAA reports that lifestyle factors are the culprits behind most strokes.
For the 15 million people around the world who experience a
stroke each year, the aftermath may be disability (5 million) or death
(5 million), according to the World Heart Federation. In a presentation at their
recent annual meeting, the results of a multicountry study emphasized
the role of lifestyle choices in preventing stroke.
During the INTERSTOKE study of people in 22 countries,
patients who had experienced acute strokes requiring hospitalization
completed questionnaires and a physical examination. The results of
3,000 people who had a stroke were compared to 3,000
people without stroke.
The 10 risk factors significantly associated with 90%
of the risk of stroke were: high blood pressure, smoking, waist-to-hip
ratio (abdominal obesity), diet, physical activity, lipids (fats),
diabetes mellitus, alcohol intake, stress and depression, and heart
disorders.
