After attending a seminar, class, or presentation, you are often asked to critique the event. An evaluation form is distributed, and the format typically consists of a series of questions with a rating scale, followed by a request for additional comments and input below.
Often times, by the end of the session you are ready to leave. Quickly and efficiently, you circle the appropriate number on the 1 to 5 scale -- Excellent, Good, Neutral, Needs Work or Poor -- perhaps write "Thanks!" in the comment section, and then you are out the door.
Next time, please take a moment and provide actual feedback. Why do you think something was "Good" or "Excellent"? If something "Needs Work", by all means explain as to what you are referring. If your feedback is negative, provide a reason or example. The point of asking for input is to learn what went right or wrong and help improve or adjust things for next time. By the same token, knowing what was done well will encourage more of the same.

Remember...
A request for feedback is made for a reason. Your time is valuable and those who put forward seminars, classes and presentations want to make sure that you feel it was not wasted. Take the extra minute or two and let them know your thoughts on the matter. Courteously worded feedback is essential to anyone who wishes to grow and move forward.
