There is a great example on the internet of a man who, upon being hired by a large company, posts a less than enthusiastic opinion of said company on Twitter (an on-line social networking site) and actually names his new employer. An employee of this company sees his posting and responds ... and the man spends the rest of the day wondering if the company will rethink its job offer.
According to recent surveys, 34% of job applicants are eliminated by potential employers after on-line site searches are performed ... while 24% are hired because of the good things that are found. More than 60% said the information they obtained on-line has had some effect on their hiring decisions.
So just because you think that you have blocked (hidden) your postings, or your supervisor, colleagues, parents, kids or neighbors don't read blogs, know about MySpace, Facebook or Twitter doesn't mean your on-line comments won't get back to them.
Everything you say -- and how you say it -- may come back to haunt you down the road. Be aware of the words you choose, the photos you post, the information you forward on to others.
You are creating an impression that matters.

Remember...
Don't assume that you can delete something once it has been posted or published on-line. Yes, you may be able to remove the original post, but the image, video, or posting may be stored elsewhere on someone else's computer or server ... or it may have been printed out ... or it may have been forwarded on via email ... Once it's out there, it's out there for all time!
