Things to keep in mind as you interact with others

"Etiquette is not about being 'stuffy.'   It's about putting yourself forward in the best possible way, using courtesy to others as your guide, while still allowing your own personality to shine!"

With all of the various social networking sites, such as Twitter, My Space, Facebook, etc., it can be very easy to keep up to date on what your contacts and friends are doing; some people post information on a sporadic basis, while others will do so on such a frequent basis it makes me wonder how they accomplish anything else through-out their day!

Email is another way to connect; it's fast, easy, and with all of the various hand-held devices, we are no longer limited to sending and receiving messages from one location.

There is one method of communication that stands out, though, most of all, and that is receiving a note in the mail.   A few weeks ago I received one from a contact; she was writing simply to say hello and touch base with me as it had been a few months since we had last spoken.

It was just a few lines on a pretty note card and probably took her all of five minutes to complete, including the envelope and stamp.   But it had an impact on me that lingers several weeks later as it is still sitting on my desk, reminding me how easy it is to stand out from the crowd.

Remember...

A telephone call, an email, and now an on-line posting puts you in the ordinary category.   Be extraordinary -- stand out -- and send a handwritten note.

It requires no more than three or four lines and can be sent for any occasion; it is a great way to make connections, forge business relationships and strengthen friendships.

Isn't that what it's all about?
