Things to keep in mind as you interact with others

If you have ever hosted a party, you know first-hand how much time, effort and money goes into such an endeavor.   As a guest, arriving with a small gift is a thoughtful way to show your appreciation for the invitation ... it's also a good way to get invited back!

Here are some gift suggestions and details to be aware of:

1.  Don't bring anything that distracts the host; food or flowers that need to be taken care of immediately are not the best choices.

2.  Cut flowers may be beautiful and smell lovely, but bring them already arranged in a vase or have them delivered the day before or the day after the party.

3.  For casual get-togethers, beverages or food for the party may be welcome; coordinate this with the host in advance.

4.  Keep the gift simple and under $20 ... a bottle of wine, liquor or box of gourmet chocolate are nice options, if your host enjoys these items.   Don't expect them to be opened and served at the party; they were brought for the host!   A small potted plant, holiday ornament or muffins for the morning after are other possibilities.

5.  Always include a note with your gift.   Hosts have a million things to think about during a party and remembering who brought what might slip their mind.

Remember...

After any party, a note expressing your thanks for the festivities and fun is always appreciated by a host!
