A Time to Remember Our Encouragers |
To celebrate this holiday, why not write a note of thanks to someone who gives you a boost? My dearest friend Cathy Jackson of Bryan, Texas, was the best encourager! On October 29, after a long illness, she passed into Heaven to join that "great cloud of witnesses" cheering us on in this race of life (Hebrews 12). She ran her race well! |

Motivate Your Man

A couple weeks ago "my coach" brought home an article from the local paper titled Motivate Your Man. It told of a free seminar featuring Clinton Kelly from TLC's What Not to Wear. Since I had recommended his book in The Coach's Wife, I thought it would be fun to attend- especially if my coach was open to suggestions! Clinton's job was to inspire and advise women on how to motivate their man in fashion and hygiene. Our daughter Ashley went with me, and we both came away learning a lot. Clinton did not disappoint. He was very hip and very relaxed. He said that many women ask, "How do I get my husband to dress better or change his hairstyle?" He said to "be direct, give information, and set reasonable goals." For example, instead of beating around the bush, tell your man exactly what you think. Say something like, "Honey, I love you, but I hate those nasty pants. You need to throw them out now." Then be ready to make good suggestions. It may feel like baby steps, but try suggesting a great haircut the first month, then the next month go for new shoes (with belt to match the shoes, and socks to match his slacks), and the next month find some updated great fitting jeans.
Clinton said that a man shrugs off the responsibility of his appearance onto the woman. A man does not look at TV and magazines for grooming advice like women do; instead, men look to the women in their lives. Lots more ideas are available in his book Dress Your Best or click on www.motivateyourman.com.
Coaches tend to stay in a time warp and a makeover can really build their confidence! |
Basketball, Basketball
(to the tune of Jingle Bells) by Carol Molinari
Basketball, basketball
The season's on its way.
Practice starts, the team departs,
My husband's gone a way--ay.
I'm out the door, and to the store
My life has gone awry.
Dashing to the games
Trying to remember people's names
I hope we'll shoot a trey
We're cheering all the way
Rah! Rah! Rah!
Whistles on referees ring
Making coaches sting
O what fun it is to be a coach's
wife tonight!
Basketball, Basketball
We love it anyway
What better way to get good seats
To watch our team at play--ay.
Basketball, Basketball
If we've lost or if we've won
We'll show support for our favorite sport
And a coach that's number one! |
Marie Valdez sent this tip: "Plan dinner dates with the other coaches' wives. We have been doing this to get to know one another and the wives love it. We usually go when the coaches have an open week or when they scout. We have our dinner night, too. We recently met at Olive Garden and then went to one of the wives' homes and watched a movie. It made everyone feel part of a group and we're thankful we did it. We usually celebrate our birthdays by meeting for dinner, too. This definitely builds camaraderie among us." |

Honoring Their Coaches' Wives
This may be a first: the booster club for Lubbock (Texas) Monterey High School honored their coaches' wives by setting up a hospitality tent before games! They had pre-game snacks and invited booster members to come by and express their thanks to these special ladies. Wow! |
