Greetings!
New CREDO publication guides participants in exploring their Core Values
It's a principal topic on the first day of a CREDO conference. We can't step forward on a journey of self-exploration without a deep and thorough examination of our Core Values. Fundamental to the CREDO experience is the recognition that we are each unique expressions of our Core Values, and identifying and reflecting upon our values is an essential piece of discovering "Who I am" and "Who God is calling me to be."
Now CREDO conference participants will be initiated in the deep, sometimes surprising, and always revelatory exploration of Core Values with a new CREDO publication Becoming Ourselves Again: Reclaiming Our Core Values.
Written by CREDO faculty member Brian Taylor, the booklet leads readers through an explanation of different factors that shape our values, and how as Christians our most primary values are those grounded in the teachings of Jesus and love of God.
Whether you are new to CREDO or you've already attended a conference or two, it's always worthwhile to revisit the values that give life meaning and shape your relationship to the world. Not only is Becoming Ourselves Again: Reclaiming Our Core Values a cornerstone resource at conferences, you can download a pdf from the CREDO website in English or Spanish.
Reflecting on our deepest values can point to areas ripe for discernment and reawaken Grand Dreams (Mi Gran Sueño in Spanish). With Becoming Ourselves Again, CREDO provides a valuable tool for helping us clear away tarnish that can obscure our vision and see more truly the selves God created us to be.

Are You Going to General Convention?
Share your CREDO story
As part of new and expanded post-conference resources, CREDO is creating a series of short videos that will further illuminate the CREDO experience. Can you tell us a little about yours?
We are setting up a special space at General Convention to capture short interviews about a wide range of topics: everything from your re-entry experience after your conference to maintaining momentum and strategies for change.
Interviews will be short and to the point; we know the General Convention schedule leaves little free time, so we'll work fast. But it will be worth it. The comments and stories of CREDO participants help bring post-conference materials to life and often provide new perspectives and valuable affirmation of the challenges faced by clergy and lay employees of the Church.
So, if you'll be in Indianapolis July 5-8, please let us know. We'll schedule a time to talk. Email a message about your availability.

Ongoing CREDO Research
In order to better identify and understand the many complex issues that affect clergy wellness, CREDO works with researchers at CPG and universities across the United States on projects devoted to conditions that impact clergy well-being. Their conclusions inform CREDO curricula and are a developmental factor in conference design.
Wellness research includes:
- Borders and Bridges, which demonstrates how boundary issues, work-family balance and work-life balance affect Episcopal clergy in physical, behavioral, cognitive and temporal areas;
- CREDO Wellness Profile--a tool for conference participants to assess their wellness and offer resources to assist in the area of Career/Vocation Satisfaction, Existential Well-being and Satisfaction with Life;
- IDPT research--intended to assist conference participants with working through the major processing points of Identity, Discernment, Practice and Transformation, a hallmark of CREDO from its inception.
CREDO works closely with Dr. Matthew Price and a team of researchers at the Church Pension Group (above). Researchers Dr. Glen Kreiner at Penn State University, Dr. Elaine Hollensbe at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Joe Stewart-Sicking and Dr. Gina Magyar-Russell at Loyola University Maryland, and Dr. Mathew L. Sheep, associate professor and recently tenured in the College of Business at Illinois State University, have worked with CREDO for numerous years. They have presented their academic research and papers at curriculum development meetings and Faculty Convocations. Look to future CREDO Connections for updates on research findings, and in the Wellness section of the CREDO website for additional resources related to Wellness research.

More on Core Values in this month's Wellness Blogs
Building upon the publication of CREDO's new booklet on Core Values, Becoming Ourselves Again: Reclaiming Our Core Values, this month's Wellness Blogs focus on Core Values from different perspectives. In her financial blog Next Step$, Celeste Ventura begins a series on the core values that inform our financial well-being. Her current blog, "Values, Passions, and Structural Integrity", poses the question "Are the financial links to your deeply held, Christ-focused values strong or are they in need of shoring up?" Join Celeste this month with two additional blogs based on the concepts discussed in "Becoming Ourselves Again."
In his blog Gaudium, Jesús Reyes will also devote his May blog to Core Values. Gaudium is CREDO's newest blog on spiritual, vocational, physical, and financial well-being, and provides reflections on wellness for Spanish-speaking CREDO participants. Visit all the CREDO blogs in May. Spiritual blogger Sam Portaro urges us to "stay in touch"--literally-- in Veni. Read CREDO's Health blog Vitality by Jackie Cameron and Transforming Work by bloggers Matthew Stockard and Brad Agry. The vocational blog team is presenting a series this month that looks at mastery versus technical proficiency, and what role each plays in our lives and work. |
