January 2012
Greetings!

Exciting Year ahead for CREDO

CREDO jumps into the New Year with energy and innovation. CREDO will introduce two new pilot conferences for clergy plan participants in the fall. Conferences for Spiritual Health CREDO and Vocational Health CREDO will offer Church Pension plan participants the opportunity to delve more deeply into specific areas of health and wellness. Two Spanish language CREDO conferences will be held in Mexico and in Panama. And CREDO is developing plans to offer Recently Ordained Clergy conferences for 2013.

So stay tuned, and watch CREDO go deeper this year.

CREDO Online Small Groups
Ready to Launch

Register today or tomorrow

CREDO participants have become familiar with the CREDO publication Strength for the Journey: A Guide to Spiritual Practice through a variety of ways: on the website, in emails featuring both text and audio, and in book form at 2011 CREDO conferences.

Response to this guide to Spiritual Practice has been consistently positive, so much so that we thought, "Why not ask those most familiar with the book if they'd like to explore spiritual practices online with others?" So last fall, we surveyed the 2011 CREDO conference participants who used the book Strength for the Journey at their conferences to gauge their interest in online interaction. Their response?

More than 100 CREDO participants said yes, they are interested in an online small group experience. The response was so positive, we decided to open up the small group discussions to the general CREDO readership.

Here's your chance--if you have not already pre-registered.

At the end of this week, we will launch small groups devoted to the following practice areas from Strength for the Journey:

  • Meditative Practice: Centering Prayer, Praying with Beads, The Daily Office, Discursive Meditation;
  • Ministry Practice: Caring Practice, Hospitality Practice, Money Practice, Gratitude Practice;
  • Media Practice: Technology Practice Music Practice, Art Practice, Movies Practice;
  • Mind Practice: Reading Practice, Study Practice, Writing Practice, Consciousness Practice;
  • Movement Practice: Body Movement, Walking Practice, Nature Practice and Handwork Practice;
  • General: Exploring practices from within each section.

In this pilot initiative for online small groups, we will use Facebook Groups. Each small group will "meet" for eight weeks in a dedicated, private Facebook Group, allowing you to exchange ideas with group members in confidence and at your convenience. (For those who are Facebook averse, we will explore different opportunities for interaction in the months to come.)

The groups will begin next week with a welcome and discussion starter from a CREDO spiritual faculty member, who will check in during the following eight weeks to pose new questions, offer his or her perspective, and in general, participate in an open discussion.

The Small Groups will be:

           Participant-led

           Limited to the original invitees

           Voluntary

           Enhanced by a faculty "host" who contributes reflections and lightly guides the discussion

In order to join, you will have to confirm a Facebook Friend Request from CREDO Communication Director Herb Gunn, the groups' creator. Your confirmation will allow Herb to add your name to the small group of your choice.  In a few days, you'll receive notice that your small group has become active and you can start posting your thoughts.

DEADLINE

If you're ready to join a group, we need to know NOW. Please click the registration link and we will get the process rolling. Since the groups are private, we will stop adding new group members at the end of the business day on Wednesday, January 4.
