Greetings!
This is the September issue of CREDO Connection. We have opened access to CREDO Connection to include people who have not yet attended a CREDO conference as well as the over 5,500 clergy and lay people who have attended Episcopalian or Presbyterian CREDO conferences. Our goal is to provide access to resources on wellness, and we know that a lifelong commitment to wellness is more than an eight-day conference--and so is CREDO. CREDO Connection is mailed each month with information and access to resources that we anticipate can build a healthy church and deepen our overall commitment to wellness. Please feel free to recommend CREDO Connection and its resources to other people. --G. Herbert Gunn

CREDO Website launches Resource Center on Wellness
|
| This month CREDO introduces a new feature on its Website dedicated to post-conference resources in the component areas that are introduced at a CREDO conference. Those areas of one's personal life, reviewed before and during a conference, are Health, Spiritual, Vocation, and Finance.
Four conference faculty members in the component areas will assist in the development and editing of CREDO post-conference resources. Serving as Associate Web Editors will be Aileen Loranger (health), Sam Portaro (spiritual), Thad Bennett (vocation), and Celeste Ventura (finance).
Each month, with the assistance of the Associate Web Editors, CREDO will suggest timely articles, ideas, and resources under the heading Wellness on the CREDO Website.

CREDO to hold third Haiti conference this month
|
|
With CREDO conference leader Ron Crocker serving
as project coordinator, a faculty team returns to the
Dominican Republic on September 27 to host the third five-day Strength for the Journey CREDO
conference for church leaders from neighboring Haiti.
Two "Kouraj pou vwayaj la-Ayiti" (or Strength for the
Journey-Haiti) conferences were held in June and July for the Diocese of
Haiti
clergy and lay leaders and their families. The Diocese of Haiti and much of the country struggle to recover from the January 12 earthquake.
The CREDO conferences have been held in Santo Domingo
because many of the
buildings in Haiti were destroyed by the earthquake that left two
million
people homeless.
Some lay participants had never traveled out of Haiti and were uncertain whether their Santo Domingo hotel would stand--an emotional reaction that reflects the general state of anxiety throughout their Haiti communities, reported CREDO Managing Director Bill Craddock who attended the first two conferences.
"As we start to rebuild our churches, we must rebuild our personal selves to give us the strength to carry on. We now have a deeper understanding of the feelings that come with a disaster and how to cope with the stress and the pain," said Bishop Jean Zaché Duracin who helped plan the series of conferences for church leaders of his diocese.
The Church Pension Fund is underwriting the cost of the
pastoral response after the devastating January earthquake and turned to CREDO to plan and facilitate the series of conferences.

Strength for the Journey continues this month
|
|
An
overnight conference in the Diocese of Fort Worth, September 24-25, will be the fourth in a series of Strength for the Journey conferences planned and led by CREDO in the four reorganizing dioceses. More than 120 clergy and lay leaders of the diocese are expected to attend.
Other Strength for the
Journey conferences were held in the dioceses of Pittsburgh, San Joaquin, and
Quincy during the spring and summer.
CREDO also held a Strength for the
Journey eight-day conference for the clergy of the reorganizing dioceses in November 2009. During 2010, CREDO is hosting two Strength for the
Journey eight-day conferences for lay employees and lay leaders of all four dioceses in May and September 27-October 4.
As part of the Strength for the Journey initiative, CREDO also is leading a clergy conference in the Diocese of Quincy (Ill.) September 27-29 for priests and deacons.

New spiritual resource enjoys huge response A Guide to Spiritual Practice
|
|
Written
by CREDO faculty members Renée Miller and Brian Taylor, A Guide to Spiritual Practice combines a
thoughtful introduction to spiritual discipline followed by 20 fresh
reflections on discovering spiritual renewal in everyday life.
A booklet was prepared for CREDO's Strength for the Journey conferences and the participants from the four reorganizing dioceses of Pittsburgh, San Joaquin, Quincy, and Fort Worth. The requests for copies of these reflections prompted CREDO to begin a semi-monthly series, e-mailing two reflections per month to subscribers.
ExploreFaith.org featured the series this month, and we expect the subscribers list to soon surpass 1,500.
It's still not too late to enroll. Click HERE to find previously released reflections and to begin or update your CREDO Profile to receive reflections from A Guide to Spiritual Practice twice a month.
