It's summer and at The Works that means extra hours for our families, awesome summer camps for kids, and an out-of-this-world special event.

There are plenty of opportunities to engineer fun times and great memories for your family this summer.

Summer Hoursfamily face warp

Bring your family to The Works:
  • Monday - Saturday, 10am - 4pm
General admission is only $5.00 for adults and children ages 3 and up.

The Works will be closed on Monday, July 5.

Group Visits

The Works is open for group visits Monday through Friday by reservation only.
Parents- be sure to tell your child's teacher about our programs.
Teachers- book your group now while space is still available.

Family Activities
Free with admission.  magnetic structure
Available every Saturday from 1-3pm (except July 10- see below for details)

June: Magnetic Structures
Although the concept is simple - use magnetic rods and steel spheres to build structures - the possibilities are endless!  Follow step-by-step instructions to build a truss bridge, or fire up your imagination to construct geometric shapes and other 3D designs.

July: Rainbow Glasses

Summer's here and the sun is bright, so come make a special pair of shades.  Instead of blocking the sun, these spectacular spectacles use the light to make outrageous rainbows!

ExploraDome at The Works
July 8th, 9th, and 10th

mn planetariumLook at the stars from the Earth, the Earth from the stars, and travel through space in the cool comfort of a giant portable planetarium.  The ExploraDome's immersive technology allows visitors to explore the universe without taking their feet off the ground. Educators from the Minnesota Planetarium will be taking guests on an amazing guided adventure through space approximately every 30 minutes.

Thursday, July 8:  10:30 am to 3 pm
Friday, July 9:  10:30 am to 3 pm
Saturday, July 10:  10:30 am to 3 pm
Shows will run approximately every half hour.

Cost

  • $3 for each ticket to an ExploraDome show PLUS
  • $5 for each admission into The Works museum (children under three get free admission to the museum but we do not recommend they attend the ExploraDome show).
  • You are not required to do both, although we suggest it, of course! 
  • This event is FREE for members of The Works or the Minnesota Planetarium!

This is a great time to become a member!  For just $60 your entire family can enjoy a full year of visit to The Works, free ExploraDome shows at The Works, discounts on camps and classes, plus free or discounted admission to over 250 science centers around the world!

Looking for something fun and educational for your kids this summer?  We still have space available in some of our summer camps.  Mix up some goo, launch a rocket, design a house with working lights, an

The Works' summer camps are ideal for girls and boys going into kindergarten through grade 7 who love to explore, discover, design and build.  Campers have fun and learn how things work with hands-on projects in many areas of science and engineering.
