Women's Business Network Meeting

Learn a brief history of the American Women's movement in light of Women's History Month!

The Western Dairyland Women's Business Center will host a Women's Business Network meeting with guest speaker Patti See, Distinguished Student Services Coordinator and Senior Lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, on Thursday, March 8th on "'Not Your Mother's Feminism': A Glimpse at the Third Wave." The meeting is free to attend and will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at the Western Dairyland Community Action Agency, 418 Wisconsin Street, Eau Claire.

In honor of Women's History Month, See will present an overview of the American women's movement. This presentation offers a brief overview of American Feminism, as well as See's own personal transformation under the movement's influence. Discussion will include exploration of the three waves of feminism using a "matriarchy" model: grandmothers (Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton); mother (Betty Freidan); stepmother (Gloria Steinem); and god daughters (Rebecca Walker, Jennifer Baumgardner, and Amy Richards). See will answer the question: what exactly is the third wave of feminism?

Women's Business Network meetings are free and open to the public. They take place over the lunch hour on the second Thursday of each month. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bag lunch and plenty of business cards. The goal of the meetings is to facilitate networking relationships among women business owners, allowing them to expand their small business knowledge. The structure of the meetings will allow participants to learn from an expert in the field and from each other's shared experiences.

U.S. Small Business Administration Offers Online Government Contracting Training

The SBA recently launched a series of Government Contracting training courses on their website to aid small business owners in understanding federal contracts. These courses are free and are "designed to help prospective and existing entrepreneurs understand the basics about contracting with governmental agencies."

The new online contracting series is called Government Contracting 101, Parts 1-3. Part 1 provides an overview of the small business contracting programs so small businesses know what is available to them. Part 2 is designed to help small firms understand how the government buys goods and services. Part 3 is about how to sell to the government. All three modules include a "resources and tools" section with links, materials and more that are useful.

Visit the website to begin your free training.

Sincerely,
