This is Women's Business Conference Month!!!  The 7th Annual Women's Business Conference will take place on April 29th in Eau Claire and is our biggest event of the year!  We anticipate more than 300 participants from across the state representing a wide range of industries and resources for women interested in starting, growing or improving a business.  If you attend one entrepreneurial education and networking event this year -- let this be it!  Go to www.WomensBusinessConference.com for more information or to register.  In the mean time, check out the following great events planned for April:

The Western Dairyland Women's Business Center is pleased to host the 7th annual Women's Business Conference on April 29, 2010 at the Plaza Hotel & Suites in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The event targets women entrepreneurs who are starting, expanding, and/or working to improve their businesses.  This year, we anticipate more than 300 participants from a four-state area!

Small Businesses Learn How to Sell to the Government and Other Prime Contractors

           
 

The Western Dairyland Business Center, Women's Business Center and Western Wisconsin SCORE present a free half-day "Contracts & Certifications Workshop" presented by Cheryl Jordan of the Small Business Administration (SBA), Aina Vilumsons, Executive Director of the Wisconsin Procurement Institute (WPI), Carol Dunn, Women's Business Ombudsman for the Wisconsin Department of Commerce and Truphosa Mwololo, Economic Development Consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Commerce's Bureau of Minority Business Development.  The workshop will take place at the Chippewa Valley Technical College Clairemont Campus Business Education Center in Eau Claire. You do not need to be a huge corporation selling heavy equipment to gain the government as a customer.  From tutoring services to bottled water, the range of products purchased by government agencies and prime contractors is extensive.  In this information packed half-day workshop, learn from contract and certification experts from the Department of Commerce, the US Small Business Administration and the Wisconsin Procurement Institute. Jordan and Vilumsons will first detail how any business can secure contracts and sell to the government and its prime contractors.  Then, Dunn and Mwololo will explain the criteria and procedures for becoming certified as a woman-owned business or minority-owned business with the State of Wisconsin.  Woman, veteran, service disabled veteran, minority, Native American, and otherwise socially/economically disadvantaged small business owners or HUBZone located businesses are encouraged to attend.

Shannon Crotty, owner of Queen of the Castle Magazine, is the guest speaker on Thursday, April 8th. The meeting will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at the Western Dairyland Community Action Agency, 418 Wisconsin Street, Eau Claire.

 

Crotty will be discussing her experience in launching a local publication and using social networking websites to promote her business. She will discuss how she has used social networking to enhance her business and to faciitate communication among her target market, her staff and local collaborating businesses.

 

The meeting is free and open to all women entrepreneurs and business professionals.

Inventor and Entrepreneur Club Meetings
 
Black River Falls - 4/8/10
Julie Geigle, owner of Heaven Sent Healing, will be the guest speaker at the April 8 meeting of the Western Dairyland Inventors & Entrepreneurs Club. The club meets on the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce, 120 N. Water St., Black River Falls. The meeting is free and open to the public.
 
Inventors and entrepreneurs consistently have more ideas and projects than time to implement them. However, being able to foster creative thought in the midst of incessant multi-tasking is integral. Join Julie for an enjoyable, enriching and interactive session which offers simple, practical tools you can use anytime and anywhere to stay focused and balanced in any situation. After the presentation, Julie will take questions on how she specifically started and grew her business in the health and wellness industry.
 
The club meets on the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce, 120 N. Water St., Black River Falls. The meetings are free and open to the public.
