T.E.A.M. - Women's Business Networking Meetings

The Teaching, Education And Mentoring (T.E.A.M.) Women's Business Network Meeting will take place on Thursday, November 12 from noon to 1pm.
 
Simple Marketing and Sales Techniques to Grow Your Business will be
presented by Kathy Hayden, Leader-Telegram Sales Manager. Hayden has 25 years of successful advertising and marketing experience working with different sized businesses from the very small one-person, home based business to some of the largest retailers in the country. Kathy states, "The experience I've gained listening to and helping local businesses grow has provided me with a passion to provide entrepreneurs with down-to-earth, real-life marketing knowledge about Eau Claire that can't be learned from reading a book."
 
Kathy's presentation will cover general vs. targeted marketing, making the most of your chosen business name, simple everyday sales techniques you can use to grow your business (that won't cost you much time or ANY money), and more.  

T.E.A.M. meetings are free and take place Noon-1 pm at Western Dairyland, 418 Wisconsin St., Eau Claire.  Feel free to bring your lunch.  And, remember to bring your business cards!

Gail Prock, CEO of the Pine Harbor Holding Company in Chippewa Falls, which developed The ShadowShield®, will be the guest speaker.
           
The ShadowShield®, a personal stalking and surveillance device created to aid in hunting, has also garnered the attention of law enforcement and the military.  Gail Prock, will discuss her company's experiences in product development and bringing the innovative The ShadowShield® to market. 
 
Prock is presenting at the November 12th meeting of the Jackson County Inventors & Entrepreneurs Club. The club meets on the second Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the Black River Area Chamber of Commerce, 120 N. Water St., Black River Falls. The meetings are free and open to the public.

Monica Holtz, owner of Holtz Creative Enterprises, will share her experiences related to publishing books, writing news releases, creating business publicity materials, and running a one-person business. Holtz has worked as a writer and editor for more than 30 years. 
 
Holtz is presenting at the Buffalo/Trempealeau Counties Inventors & Entrepreneurs Club meeting on Thursday, November 19th at 6:30 p.m. at Western Dairyland, 23122 Whitehall Rd, Independence. The meeting is free and open to the public.
 
Using QuickBooks in Your Business
 
Mondays, November  2 & 9, 6 - 9 pm
Western Dairyland, 418 Wisconsin St, Eau Claire

QuickBooks is the most widely used accounting software among small business owners, and Western Dairyland is offering hands-on training in this popular and useful program.  In Session 1 (November 2) attendees will learn the basics, including how to create a company file, how to backup and restore data and how to contend with vendor information and transactions.  Session 2 (November 9) will cover how to deal with customer information and transactions.  Attendees will also learn how to run reports.
 
Evlyn Carlile, of Simple Office Solutions, will present the training using Premier QuickBooks 2009, but files may be imported to any 2009 QuickBooks version, including the free download SimpleStart, available at http://quickbooks.intuit.com/product/accounting-software/free-accounting-software.jsp
 
Laptops will be provided, but each attendee must either bring a flash drive, or borrow one ($20 deposit required) to transfer the file they have created to their own computer system.  In addition, each attendee must bring to the first session at least three business cards for vendors and three for customers to be used in setting up their QuickBooks company file. 
 
Tuition is $149; scholarships are available for income-eligible individuals.

Using QuickBooks in Your Business: Payroll 
 
Monday, November  16, 6 - 9 pm

Evlyn Carlile will present the training using Premier QuickBooks. In this class, attendees will learn how to set-up employees, process time cards and payroll and, process tax payments.
 
Tuition is $75 for the class and scholarships are available for income-eligible individuals. No experience with QuickBooks is necessary, but attendees should have basic computer skills.
 
Laptops will be provided for use during the classes, therefore space is limited to 15 participants and registration is required by November 13.

These training sessions teach participants how to start a business by assembling the pieces of a business plan. Topics covered include feasibility, proving your market, funding your business, writing a business plan, marketing, business legal structure and more. 
 
After the class, attendees may apply for free, one-on-one assistance from Western Dairyland's Business Development Specialists to determine the feasibility of their business idea and identify sources to prove their market.  Business Development Specialists may also help with the preparation of business plans and financial forecasts which could be presented to lenders.

Free Online Business Courses
The Small Business Training Network (SBTN) is a virtual campus providing quality and targeted online training to meet the information needs of prospective and existing small business owners.  Available courses are identified by topic, such as Starting a Business, Surviving in a Down Economy and Business Management.  In general, the courses are all self-paced and should take about 30 minutes to complete.  Most of the courses require a brief online registration.
