Greetings!
Flower and Her Puppies
Flower arrived at AnimalSave's Spay/Neuter Clinic a couple of weeks ago to be spayed. Brought in by a landlord trying to do the right thing about animals left by a tenant, he didn't know she was quite so pregnant. While we do spay pregnant animals to stem the ever growing tide of too many dogs and cats, Flower was too far along. I took her home and set her up in the guest room with a large plastic swimming pool as her whelping box. She preferred the queen sized bed!
On Saturday, May 21, Flower delivered 10 puppies. Labrador and who knows what else, eight black and two brown squirming, crying ravenous little beings took their first breath on mother earth. Flower, an incredibly patient and gifted mother, wouldn't leave them for two full days. Constantly nursing, cleaning and monitoring them she was exhausted.
Totally blind, deaf and driven only by their sense of smell to locate mom and milk, their first few days were restless and searching. They seem to have acclimated to the rhythm of this big world and are more settled and peaceful. Watching their little bodies twitch, listening to them bark and whine as they dream is precious.
Sadly, we lost little 'Sweet William' on May 24. After spending time in the gentle hands of Tom Wilson, he quietly and peacefully crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I'm not sure what gifts he left us in his short time here, but I do know they are important and enormous and I am grateful to have known his sweet spirit for a few moments.

We want to give the "Flower Litter" flower names. Please send me your name suggestions. It looks like we have five girls and four boys.

Dog of the Month - Suzie

Suzie is a sweet 15 month old lab/pit mix. She's a little shy upon meeting new people but is very friendly once she gets to know you. She's crate trained and loves kids and other dogs. Suzie was fantastic with the previous owner's granddaughter who was forced to return her due to health issues. Have you ever seen a cuter face?
Dogs/Puppies Report: Only Pele remains of the Hawaiian litter (Maui, Hula, Kona adopted). Batman (MinPin/chi) is still available. Suzie, Bagheera, Loshi and Marshall (lab/pit mixes) are all playing at Carolyn's until their adoptions. Flower (lab mix) and her 9-6 day old puppies are thriving.

News from the Cat Room
The kittens have arrived and so have our new cages! They are beautiful and easy to clean. Huge thanks to those who donated $500 per cage to purchase them. The flooring was donated by Paulette and Joe Wright, and their son Dan Grattan at Premier Flooring. Stop by and thank them!
In April and May, we've rescued 42 kittens and 14 cats, and adopted 16 cats and 2 kittens.
We've taken our cats to 2 senior facilities for adoptions: Hilltop Commons (Buddy was adopted, see the article in The Union's Town Talk on May 24) and Highgate. Thank you volunteers Carol Gaynor and Lucy Montgomery. We also had pet adoptions at LaTeDa, where Sammy was adopted and a percentage of money donated to us. Stop by and thank Lisa, Debbie, and Cathy at LaTeDa.
