Greetings!

The Medicine Wheel of many indigenous people begins in the Easterly direction with the time of dawn and Spring.  After the cold, sleep of Winter; Spring brings light and warmth for preparing the soil and planting the seeds that will grow and develop in the Summer and harvest in the Fall.  We can use this ancient process to direct our personal lives and chart the course for organizations.  We've been busy doing just that here at AnimalSave.

We're in the early stages of organizing a Friends of AnimalSave group.  The purpose of FOAS is to develop and produce events that will bring the income we need to help fund our important programs and continue our good work for the animals.  As you can see from the calendar, we have a number of events the group is working on.

Mark your calendar for June 12 and our 3rd Wag 'n' Walk event to be held at Western Gateway Park in Penn Valley.  If you'd like to sponsor or be a vendor at Wag 'n' Walk, please let me know.  We're excited about a new event, the Fashion Show, to be held in September at the Alta Sierra Country Club.  We expect to have over 100 attendees and that it will become an annual event - growing each year.

We're awaiting the delivery of new cages for the Cat Adoption Room.  These cages will be safer for the kitties and much easier for our dedicated volunteers to sanitize properly.   We received a generous donation for the cages and are looking for matching funds.  A $500 donation will purchase one cage, including a plaque with your name or the name of your business, a relative or friend - or in honor or memory of a beloved pet or person.  We're almost half-way to our goal!  Please contact me if you want to participate in this project.

We're also excited about our new on-line thrift store, AnimalSave Antiques and Treasures, to be launched in the near future.  This on-line store will provide a venue to market the higher-end items we receive and obtain the best price for them on behalf of our programs.  We have incredible artwork, beautiful jewelry, vintage furniture and accessories and very special one-of-a kind collectibles.  Watch for more to come.

Please welcome Bonnie Tritel who has agreed to take on the production of a monthly e-newsletter to keep you all current on the great things AnimalSave is doing.  Please plan to attend the Art Party and Open House at Tritel Studios (www.jefftritelsculpture.com) - a portion of sales will be donated to AnimalSave.

Just a few updates to let you know we weren't hibernating all Winter.  We've been planning, planting and seeding and are looking forward to a bountiful harvest!!!

Dogs of the Month
Dogs of the Month - Hula and Kona

The Hawaiian litter, Kona (m), Maui (m) , Pele (m) and Hula(f) are lab/pit mixes who were born on February 16.  These pudgy puppies will be ready for adoption by the end of April.  (Their mom, a purebred lab, was spayed yesterday.)

Meet Maui, Kona, and Pele on Saturday, April 30th at the Rescue for Pets' Sake Adoptathon, held at Muttley's Pet Emporium, 627 East Main St., GV (just up the road from AnimalSave).  Lots of dogs, from puppies to seniors, big to little, will be available for adoption.  See you there from 11am-2pm.

Fill out an application if you're interested in one of the Hawaiians!

Cat of the Month

Otis has his lunch
Otis (m) (pictured), Cajun (f), Phoenix (f), and Mylie (f) , were brought to AnimalSave after their feral mom was trapped and spayed.  Once the spay and neuter crew realized that there was a nursing mother, the hunt was on for a litter of kittens at the site of a feral cat colony.  Luckily, the 4 little ones were found and brought to AnimalSave for round the clock bottle feeding by vet assistant Emily Rose.  These cuties will be ready for adoption by the end of May.

Fill out an application if you're interested in one of the kittens.
