Greetings!

Wishing you all a belated New Year. We have been busy here at AnimalSave; finishing up 2009 and adopting foster animals, spaying and neutering, and distributing food. Take a look at our numbers section--you'll be quite impressed.
In addition, the response from folks wanting to support
AnimalSave through our Year-End Appeal is very much appreciated. We
received over $19,000. Your investment in AnimalSave will help us do
even more to help the animals.
Also notice the photo that's illustrating my message: a shot of Tucker and Yoda from our 2010 calendar, courtesy Shadow Dance Photography. Each month we'll be featuring the current month's photo, and you can click here to see excerpts from essays that won these pets a place in our calendar.
AnimalSave looks forward to a productive 2010 filled with many new opportunities for this organization and blessings for the animals. We invite you to walk this year with us.
For the Animals, Carolyn Niehaus

New Board Members Our good fortune started right away this year with the addition of two new members who recently joined AnimalSave's Board of Directors.
Linda Burbridge has returned to the board following about a year's hiatus. Linda served on the board for a number of years and helped shepherd us to the good place we are now. We are very happy to have her long history and experience with AnimalSave to draw from. She will be an excellent resource and mentor for new board members.
Nancy Sullivan is a retired nurse practitioner. Her experience includes design, development and implementation of a variety of health related programs. Nancy served for 5 years on the San Francisco City College School of Nursing Advisory Board. She has grant writing experience and has already been tapped for the PR/Fund Development Committee. We are delighted to have Nancy on our team.
The rest of the board includes:
Kathi Delponte, President Jody Mazur, Treasurer Denise Burt-Dugger, Secretary Monique Hanson Carolyn Niehaus Tom Strolle, DVM

Thank You, Volunteers! We could not accomplish all our good work without the contribution of time and effort from over 100 volunteers. These generous folks work tirelessly sorting clothing in the thrift store, cleaning cat cages, answering phones, cleaning and sorting surgical instruments, socializing kittens, entering data, fostering dogs and cats, distributing pet food, serving on our Board of Directors and endless other tasks critical to carrying out our mission.
We are forever grateful to and appreciative of our faithful volunteers. We also appreciate the time and commitment of our Volunteer Coordinator, Doe Firth. If you are interested in investing some well-spent time to help the animals, please contact Doe at Doe@animalsave.org.

Grant Writing Committee Tom Brown and Kit McDonald have been busy writing proposals and investigating sources for funding our programs. Tom recently helped us put together a proposal to the Nevada County Land Trust for Salter funds. Wish us luck!

Public Relations / Fund Development Committee
Our recently formed PR/FD committee met for the second time. Lots of good ideas were put forth and the excitement and energy of committee members will give AnimalSave a big boost.
We look forward to increasing our visibility and developing new and different ways to develop lasting relationships in our community as we make new friends. We welcome Kathleen Bowes, Sharon Lapin, Cindy Oliver, Diane Rosenberg and Lisa Thomas to this committee.

 Always.
This month we launch a new column that bears witness to a sentiment as old as time itself: celebration of the bonds we share with our animal friends that endure forever, even after their passing.
 Binky
One of our members, Christian Hellwig, contributes these thoughts about Binky, his feline companion of 17 years, who died December 19, 2009 of renal failure."From the time that I decided to bring him home with me from Hong Kong, where he had been rescued, I felt that we had a deep connection based on faithfulness and trust ... I learned more from him than I could have imagined possible about relationships and commitment.
"We were a team and we were a family. We faced the world as one. When it was blazing hot outside, we both sought comfort by splaying ourselves out on the cool floor; in frigid winter weather, we curled up together under woolen blankets and comforted each other. I learned from Binky that this warmth and companionship added invaluable meaning and joy to my life.
"Binky, I will never forget what you gave me, and I can only hope to be able to share a small fraction of this with the others in my life. Goodbye, sweet friend. I miss you more than my words can describe." |
