When baseball great, Ty Cobb, was seventy years old, an interviewing reporter asked the Hall of Fame player, "What do you think you would hit if you were playing in this era?" (Ty Cobb was a legend who had a career batting average of .367). He told the reporter, "I'd probably hit around .290 or maybe .300." The sports reporter said, "Is that because of the travel, the night games, and all the new pitches like the slider?" Cobb quickly answered, "No, it's because I'm seventy!"
There's something to be said for confidence! Cobb had it concerning baseball. Christians should have it in our relationship to Christ. At least, that is what the Apostle John teaches us in the book of 1 John. He says there are certain things for which you can be sure-even confident. In the last few verses of 1 John 5, he shares five certainties of a Christian. This Sunday I will be talking about the first of these as we began to bring this series to a close. It is found in verse 13 where it says, "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."
God does not desire for His children to live in fear but to have confidence about His love and their future. This Sunday I will share personally and practically how you can live with certainty. Be there and bring a friend!
Blessings Today,
