Dwight Nelson has shared a story about his pastor which I'm sure is apocryphal, but still will make you smile:
It seems the pastor noticed a kitten climb up a tree in his backyard but then it became frightened and refused to come down. Well, the pastor tried everything to coax the cat down the tree-milk, cat food, and nothing would make the cat budge. So, finally, the pastor decided to tie a rope to the bumper of his car and the other end to the trunk of the tree. He figured if he could bend the trunk low enough to the ground he would be able to reach the cat.
So he inched his car forward gently bending the tree. And you guessed it. The rope broke. The cat sailed through the air like a baseball hit into centerfield. The pastor felt badly about it and looked everywhere for that cat but was unable to find it anywhere. He wasn't sure what he had done to the little cat but it didn't look good.
A couple of days later the pastor bumped into a neighbor at the grocery store who was known to hate cats. Curiously, she was buying cat food. So the pastor asked her if she had changed her mind about cats. She replied, "Well, you won't believe it. My daughter told me a few days ago that she was praying for a cat. I told my daughter she could never have a cat no matter how much she prayed. But she went ahead anyway. I watched her kneel in prayer, and lo and behold, pastor, a cat just fell out of the sky! So I figured if God gave it to her, I had better keep it after all."
I'm not saying I believe this story but I do believe one thing: It is amazing the way God does answer prayer. Sometimes it appears almost like answers to prayer fall from the sky. However it may occur in our lives, let us rejoice that God still answers the prayers of His people-and sometimes in unusual ways!
Blessings,
Pastor Ron
