Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend! We wanted to let you know that MozyPro, a Utah based online back up solution company, is featuring Netdrafter's lightning strike story on their web site! Read about it and how Netdrafter protects data below. Data loss, lighting, and a wake up call! It’s real!
A natural disaster is something so far removed from our minds due to the fact that they simply seem to happen – someplace else. One evening while house-sitting at a friend’s home (Washington DC), Netdrafter’s President, Rachel Pastirik was busy working when – believe it or not - a bolt of lighting zapped the roof. The lightning sent positively charged static electricity throughout the house that toasted all the appliances, burnt mirrors, and shot light sockets right out of the wall. Wow!Read How We Narrowly Avoided a Business Disaster How Netdrafter protects data:
2. Automatic web server database (content and structure) backup - occurs daily. An automated restoration process is available for each backup and backups are kept for 25 days. 3. A local copy of customer web files and account data are kept on the main Netdrafter production machine. 4. MozyPro automatically backs up production machine when files are added or modified. 5. Periodically, Netdrafter will manually back up to an external source and store it in a local safety deposit box – the same place where the company stores its’ vital original records (accounting files, etc.) 6. Netdrafter machines are protected by APC UPS (for surge protection, lightning, and backup battery power) which literally saved them during the lighting attack. 7. Finally, the company is armed with “just in case” storage media (laptop, external hard drives, etc.) in the event of an emergency. Netdrafter also has a disaster recovery plan, which describes their internal security processes and defines steps taken if the ripple affect of a disaster makes its way to Virginia. The company is wise to focus on keeping data safe, and with their multiple strategies to protect your files as if they were their own, well that’s just plain ‘ole good old fashioned business values.
