 Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland will host its 27th Annual Promenade "Masquerade Benefit" sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Embassy Suites Cleveland-Rockside. This will be a one-of-a-kind event, touting a perfect mix of cocktails, music, dancing, feathers, beads, and masks! Enjoy a sit-down dinner, silent auction, and smorgasbord of artistic surprises during our "Dancing with the Stars" entertainment. This benefit will be a night to remember! Cocktail attire with a masquerade mask suggested.

27th Annual Steven P. Arnold Walkathon

 

The 27th Annual Steven P. Arnold Walkathon will take place on October 8, 2011 in memory of Steven P. Arnold, a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at Case Western Reserve University, who passed away from diabetes complicated heart disease. Proceeds from this event support a diabetes education fund at the Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland. The event will start at 1 pm at Clarke Tower Pavilion on the north side of Case Western Reserve University's campus. The cost is $5 per person or teams of 10 or more are $3/person up to $50. Camp Ho Mita Koda will take place on Saturday November 12, 2011 at 6 pm at the Slovenian National Home 3563 E. 80th St. Cleveland 44105.  There will be a buffet, open bar, silent auction, and sideboards.       Our 27th annual Promenade "Masquerade Benefit" - our final fundraiser of the year - is coming up on October 29 at Embassy Suites Cleveland-Rockside. Please consider joining us for this fun and exciting event.
     The evening will feature "Dancing with the Stars" entertainment, featuring Cleveland celebrities including FOX 8's Kenny Crumpton, WOIO/19 Action News' Paul Joncich, WKYC's Maureen Kyle, former Biggest Loser contestant Jerry Skeaback, Huron Hospital's Chrysa Nasca Kirsch, BSN, RN, CDE, Case Western Reserve University's Marcia Moreno, and University Hospital's Sandhia Varyani, MD, FACOG.

     The evening also includes dinner, a silent auction, a showcase dance by Rebecca Sweet and Heriberto Perez from Latin Soul Ballroom, and an awards presentation to our 2011 honorees: Richard Hauer, Director of the Year; Timothy Kern, PhD, Honorary Director of the Year; John Kirk, Board Leadership in Development Award; Tony Frazer, Volunteer of the Year; and WDOK, Media Award.

    Tickets start at $150/person (or $100/person for ages 30 and under). One hundred percent of the proceeds from Promenade remain in our local community to enable us to support all people with diabetes throughout their entire life.   Please join us on Thursday, October 6, 2011 from 12:30 to 4:00 pm at Embassy Suites Cleveland-Rockside for our free Diabetes Fair. Learn about the effects of diabetes on your kidneys and ways to motivate yourself to stay healthy with diabetes. Health screenings and flu shots will also be available. Cleveland Clinic Obesity Summit

 

The Cleveland Clinic is hosting the 6th annual Obesity Summit: Science and Practice of Obesity Management on October 20 and 21, 2011 at InterContinental and Bank of America Conference Center in Cleveland. This year's Summit features innovative sessions including interactive workshops, a meet-the-experts luncheon, and a panel discussion. Supplementing these will be didactic/interactive sessions focusing on obesity biology, lifestyle choices, sleep disorders, pediatric management strategies, new medical and surgical options, and pharmacologic treatments. Camp Ho Mita Koda Front Gate Restored

   Thanks to Meadville, PA native Dennis Frampton, Camp Ho Mita Koda's 82-year-old front gate has been reconstructed and restored it back to its original condition. The restored gate was installed at the end of the 2011 Camp season and is an exact replica of the original gate. Blue Knights Chapter Ohio XV Raises More Than $3,200 for Camp Ho Mita Koda

The 22nd annual Mark Laccheo Memorial Ride, sponsored by the Blue Knights Chapter Ohio XV, attracted 98 registered bikers and 148 drivers and riders from all over Northeast Ohio this year. The event raised more
than $3,200 for CHMK camperships which offers financial assistance for children who want to attend Camp. Click here to read more about Blue Knights and Camp Ho Mita Koda.

Backpack Bivouac XX "Night at the Movies"  Raises $46,000Movie Reel
Camp Ho Mita Koda's 20th annual Backpack Bivouac  XX "Night at the Movies" fundraiser on September 10 was a great success and raised more than $46,000! Thank you to everyone who supported this event! Special thanks to event chair Anne Harmody, committee members, and everyone who donated. Please save the date for Backpack Bivouac XXI on September 8, 2012.

Diabetes Discovery Day: Ask, Explore, Uncover and More
Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland is partnering with University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital for a special diabetes event on Saturday, November 19, 2011 from noon to 4:00 pm at Cleveland Marriott East. Diabetes Discovery Day is an opportunity to learn about the latest advances in diabetes. Early Registration fee: $10 for a family of four, $5 for every individual after.
