Helen M. Dumski, MA, RD, LD/President & CEO

Helen Dumski May 2011   We often hear the expression "change is good." I am delighted to say that change is very good at our organization! Our new identity and new name--Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland--are results of a two-year strategic planning process. They position us to meet the ever-growing need for services as diabetes statistics continue to rise in our community. Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland more accurately reflects our relationships with our clients, donors, volunteers and funders as well as with medical providers, allied health professionals, and other nonprofit organizations in our community to provide our services to a wide variety of clients. Partnership on all levels is the key to meeting the overwhelming challenges faced by each with person with diabetes and their loved ones. As our partner,

I invite you to visit our website at

www.diabetespartnership.org to learn more about our new identity and what it means to you.

Though change can be good, I know change can sometimes be confusing. I assure you that what hasn't changed is our commitment to you and this community. Our new tagline and newsletter name truly say what our new identity is all about: managing diabetes. together. We are all in this together, and I look forward to continuing our partnership as we address the needs of those who are touched by diabetes.

A New Name: Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland Sets Course for Future

Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland has changed its name. We are now known as Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland. This new name better reflects our focused vision of providing long-term support for people living with diabetes. And this is more important than ever as we help address the rapidly Diabetes Partnership of Cleveland logoincreasing number of people affected by diabetes in our community.

What can you expect from this exciting change? We will continue to provide the same high-quality of services Clevelanders have come to expect from us. Our programs are more focused on providing long-term needs of people with diabetes. Our programs and services have been restructured into two main areas: Diabetes MattersTM includes our patient education and support programs, and Camp Ho Mita Koda includes our programs for children with type 1 diabetes.

This is the second time in our 57-year history that our organization has changed its name. Click here to learn more about our history and to read more about our name change and how it will affect you.

Strong Bones for Strong Bodies

There is one part of our body that we often forget to take care of--our bones! It is important to take care of our bones because Physician with x-ray cartoonthey support our bodies and allow us to walk, run, and do all of our favorite things. If we do not take care of our bones, they may become thin and weak. As our bones become weak, it may be hard to do our daily activities and increases the risk of falling and getting hurt. To keep our bones healthy, we can include low-fat calcium rich foods into our diet. Click here to learn which foods will help your bones.
