Happy New Year from the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland!  The frantic pace of the holidays is behind us and the promise of 300+ days lies ahead of us. Making a list of "New Year's Resolutions" is a popular way for people to take control of their lives.  Most people make their list too long.  In other words, they "bite off more than they can chew."  Once one resolution is not kept, the other ones usually are not kept either. This can lead to unnecessary stress and a feeling of failure.  This is not a good way to begin a new year.

Why not try a more simple approach to the new year by making only one New Year's Resolution.  Think of one promise to yourself that is easy to keep throughout the year.  If you have diabetes, it might be to test your blood glucose more regularly or to try a new exercise each month. If you are caring for someone with diabetes, your resolution might be to make one new healthy recipe each month for both of you to enjoy.  Whatever you choose, make sure it is something you can do easily.

On behalf of your friends at DAGC, I wish you a year filled with good health, easy challenges and successful promises.

Happy New Year? Depression and DiabetesDAGC logo
After the excitement and "hustle and bustle" of the holiday season, it's not unusual for many people to feel "down" or "blue."  Add to that the stress of caring for one's diabetes, and it's no surprise that many people with diabetes may feel unhappy, especially after the holidays.  This is normal, but if this feeling lasts for several weeks, you might be depressed. Click here to learn more.

Keep Diabetes in Check and Enjoy the Big Game

Hands holding football The 2010 Superbowl is just around the corner.  For many people, this is good reason to gather with friends and family for a fun afternoon of television and snacking.  What seems like endless bowls of snacks, sugary treats and fried foods can be a challenge for those who are trying to keep their blood glucose levels under control. Make a "game plan" before you go, so you can enjoy game time snacking while managing your diabetes.
