Helen M. Dumski, MA, RD, LD /President & CEO Your health should never be left to chance, and this fall that advice is more important than ever. It seems like everyone is talking about the H1N1 flu virus and the seasonal flu. Sometimes the information can be confusing and having a chronic disease such as diabetes makes it easier to panic. Yes, the flu viruses are out there, but you can take simple, common sense steps to lower your chances of catching them. Be sure to read the article in this issue of Diabetes Matters to learn what you can do right now to stay ahead of this season's flu viruses. Simply knowing more about it will help you take control of your health. If you do get sick, be sure to contact your health team for specific instructions about your illness. Most importantly, get plenty of rest, drink plenty of water and stay away from others while you recover. Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland has several programs and events scheduled this fall. Come watch our own exciting version of "Dancing with the Stars" at Promenade, take a hayride with your children or grandchildren at the Camp Ho Mita Koda "Spook-tacular" or spend an exciting and fun afternoon or evening at Divabetic LIVE while learning how to manage your diabetes with style. As always, thank you for your support of your local diabetes organization. |
