DAGC Dialogue Helen M. Dumski, MA, RD, LD /President & CEO A large part of what we do at the Diabetes Association of
Greater Cleveland is to educate our community about diabetes, its prevention
and its challenges. Getting the word out
to Northeast Ohio about this sometimes
misunderstood disease can be its own challenge.
That is why we are delighted that Cleveland's ideastream,
which includes public radio station 90.3 WCPN,
and public television station WVIZ-PBS, have chosen to highlight diabetes this
week as part of their multi-media health campaign. During the week of July 17, ideastream is
presenting a series of programs focusing on diabetes. The series titled Diabetes: The Constant Shadow highlights the many
challenges associated with diabetes and the growth of the disease in Cleveland. For a complete
list of ideastream's diabetes programming through July 26, click here.
The Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland and Camp Ho
Mita Koda were featured on several of these programs. Tammy Randall,
DAGC's Director of Education, was a guest on WCPN's
"Sound of Ideas" program along with DAGC Diva Deborah Morris. After spending a day at Camp Ho Mita Koda (CHMK), WCPN ran a story about Camp on its
"Morning Edition" program. WVIZ produced
a webcast video showcasing CHMK and some of this summer's campers. Please click on the appropriate links within this paragraph to see the results for yourself.
We at DAGC thank ideastream for recognizing the serious
disease that diabetes is and for bringing all of our concerns to the
airwaves. This is a true public service
for our community.

DAGC Golf Benefit A Big Success A little rain did not keep 29 foursomes away from DAGC's 18th annual Golf Tournament on June 8 at Canterbury Golf Club in Shaker Heights. This year's tournament was sponsored by Consolidated Graphics, Inc. Despite a wet start, golfers participated in tournament day activities including 18 holes of challenging golf, delicious meals, a silent auction, and awards for skill games. All money raised that day will be used to support DAGC's education programs and services. This year's tournament took place just two weeks after Canterbury Golf Club hosted the 70th Senior PGA Championship. Thank you to Bill Murman for serving as chairman of this year's event and to the committee members, event sponsors and dedicated golfers. Gary Lichtenstein & Bill Murman |
