This month we're in the process of wrapping up our 24th Annual Verizon Wireless Swim for Diabetes and 11th Annual Verizon Wireless SCUBA for Diabetes fundraisers, events that we simply cannot do alone.  How fitting that these events occur within days of "National Volunteer Week."

This year's events took place at 70 pools throughout Northeast Ohio...that's a lot of pools, and it includes coordinating a lot of people.  We had 205 people from all over the area volunteer at these pools.  They served as lifeguards, pool leaders and volunteers who helped check people in and counted laps for swimmers, among other duties.  Thank you to our Swim and SCUBA volunteers-those at the pools and those at our office--for all you did in preparation for these events and for your time and efforts during this important weekend.

Besides the months of planning that go into Swim and SCUBA, soN. Olmstead 09 Volunteers many details go into running an organization like the Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland.  We coordinate and offer a wide variety of education programs throughout the year; we orchestrate additional fundraising events such as our Promenade and Backpack Bivouac; and we prepare all year for the summer season at Camp Ho Mita Koda.  More than 600 volunteers help keep this place humming.

KSU Pool Volunteers 09  Our volunteers truly mean the world to us, and in this challenging economy, their dedication to our mission and clients is needed more than ever.  We often hear how much satisfaction our volunteers get from giving back to others.  Well, we get that same satisfaction from their being a part of the DAGC Family.

Thanks to all of you who help us reach out to others.
