DAGC Dialogue Helen M. Dumski, MA, RD, LD
President & CEO Welcome to a new year, and a new beginning at DAGC. I am humbled and delighted to have been named the new President and CEO of DAGC and am looking forward to leading the wonderful work this organization does in our community. I have been very involved with the diabetes community in northeast Ohio for more than 25 years. Since joining DAGC eight years ago, I have served as its Vice President of Programs and Services as well as its Vice President & Chief Operating Officer.
My interest in diabetes is both professional and personal as a Registered Dietician and having a family history of diabetes, respectively. I clearly know the physical, emotional, financial and psychological struggles associated with this disease. The incidence of diabetes is growing. More than ever, our services are needed to increase the awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors of diabetes and to provide education about diabetes management to prevent the debilitating complications associated with the disease. Managing diabetes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week requires a management team, and DAGC is here to be a part of that team. As 2009 unfolds, I wish you good health, happiness and the comfort of family and friends. |
Healthy New Year! The holidays are behind us and a brand new year is ahead -- a clean slate to try new things, make new promises, or even re-invent ourselves. Making a new year's resolution can be more than a simple promise to ourselves...it can help us maintain some sort of control over our lives, especially during these uncertain times. And taking stock of our health is an excellent place to start. Click here to learn more. |
Protect your Peepers: January is National Eye Health Month The longer a person lives with diabetes, the more likely he/she is to develop eye problems. January is National Eye Health Month, and health care professionals are urging people with diabetes to note any changes in their vision and take steps toward healthier eyesight. | |
Game Day Snacking? Yes, You Can!
Watching the Superbowl game on television has become a big reason to entertain family and friends each year, and that means a focus on food-bowls of snacks and buffet tables laden with layered dips, fried temptations and countless other appetizers. "Social snacking" for people with diabetes can present its own challenges. Click here for tips on how to stay in control while enjoying the big game. |
Camp Ho Mita Koda Receives Gift from Masons John Hall (left) and David Foyer, Sr. recently presented a check for $16,000 to Camp Ho Mita Koda Manager Julie Hewitt on behalf of the Grand Council Royal & Select Masons of Ohio. The money will be used to provide camperships to campers in need. The Masons have been wonderful supporters of Camp for several years. Besides raising funds, they have helped with landscaping chores around the camp grounds. Thank you to these special friends! |
