Greetings!
Another year of tasting wine has gone by and we tasted many good wines together. to bring in the new year, we have an article on selecting bubbles and our first wine tasting of 2011 will be January 5. We hope to see you at some (if not all) of our January events. As we end 2010 I'd lake to offer this toast: To lying, cheating, stealing and drinking - may you lie to save your brother, may you cheat death, may you steal someone's heart and may you drink with me.
Wishing you a very happy new year! Barbara Hay

Selecting Champagne: How dry are your bubbles?
Nothing really says celebration like hearing that cork pop, seeing the bubbles flow into a flute, and feeling those bubbles on the palate this New Year's Eve.
But how to choose the perfect celebratory bubbly?
The first thing to know when selecting sparkling wine and Champagne is the difference between the two. Only sparkling wine made from grapes grown in the Champagne region and by the mthode champenoise may be called Champagne. Everything else must be labeled sparkling wine.
Bubbly is usually made from Chardonnay and/or Pinot Noir grapes, and unless winemakers have stellar crops, the grapes from various years are blended together in a wine labeled nonvintage (NV). Occasionally, there are exceptional crops, and then, a wine that contains 85 percent from that year's grapes can be classified as vintage. Read more
