 Mexico's Mayakoba Tourism Development, comprising three separate, independently owned hotels on a 593-square-acre site on the Riviera Maya, has been recognized for achievements in sustainable tourism by the Rainforest Alliance, an international nonprofit organization that champions conservation, protection of the environment and support of local communities. "Mayakoba is the first tourist area to be recognized by the Rainforest Alliance for achievements in sustainable tourism," said Mexico's secretary of tourism, Gloria Guevara. "Mexico is proud to receive this honor because sustainability practices are our priority in the tourism sector." The properties in the Mayakoba Tourism Development are the Fairmont Mayakoba, Rosewood Mayakoba and Banyan Tree Mayakoba.
