| MEXICO SEES DRAMATIC JUNE GROWTH |
Good news for Mexico! This past June, the number of international tourists who reached Mexico by air jumped 35.2% over June of last year, marking an impressive first half of 2010 for Mexico's tourism trade. During June, 818,278 foreign tourists visited Mexico, up from 605,435 in June 2009. "We feel these numbers are evidence of the strength and quality of Mexico's destinations," said Mexican secretary of tourism Gloria Guevara. |
| AA TO CHARGE EXTRA FOR FRONT-ROW SEATS |
American Airlines said yesterday it is now charging between US$19 and US$39 for "Express Seats" - those spots in the first few rows of economy. The seats that will cost extra are in the first two or three rows of the coach cabin, depending on the size of the plane. The seats can only be bought at airport kiosks between 24 hours to 50 minutes before the flight for travel within the US. American, the second-largest US airline behind Delta Air Lines, still provides its elite frequent fliers those seats for no extra charge. |
| VIRGIN AMERICA MORE MEXICO ROUTES |
Virgin America has applied for Transportation Department approval to operate Mexico flights. The airline intends to launch San Francisco-Los Cabos service in late 2010, operating five weekly flights. United and Alaska Airlines already serve the route. Virgin America also plans thrice-weekly flights between San Francisco and Cancun and five flights per week between Los Angeles and Cancun, starting in early 2011. United, Delta and Mexicana serve Cancun from Los Angeles, while United flies to Cancun from San Francisco. |
| MEXICO INDEPENDENCE BICENTENNIAL |
2010 is the year of the Bicentennial Celebrations in Mexico. This wonderful country is commemorating 200 years of Independence from Spanish rule and 100 years of its Revolution that began in 1910 and toppled dictator Porfirio Diaz. El Grito every 16th of September is the Mexican Fiesta par excellence! On this day Mexicans all over the world celebrate Mexico's independence from Spanish rule. |
