 filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation to fly from Los Angeles to San Jose del Cabo. If approved, this would become the airline's first international destination. The route is under review following a recent announcement by Frontier Airlines that it would stop serving the market in April. "We saw that the DOT had Cabo rights under review, and we simply could not pass up the opportunity," said Virgin America President David Cush. "Since it was a low-cost airline giving up the right to fly to Cabo, we think it would be ideal for another low-cost carrier to take its place," Cush said. Delta and United also have applied to serve the route.

tourists visited Mexico in 2007, according to Mexico's Tourism Board. Foreign tourists visiting Mexico spent more than $12.9 billion last year, an increase of 6% compared with 2006. Although visitors from the U.S. accounted for the lion's share of tourists, the number of tourists coming from Canada, Europe and other parts of Latin America were up sharply compared with the previous year. Arrivals from Brazil were up 81%, Venezuela and Colombia were up 64%, Canada was up 21%, Germany was up 13%, and the U.K. and France were each up 10%. The number of cruise ship passengers visiting Mexico in 2007 rose 5%, to 6.8 million.
