Whatever TERA is able to do, it is because of the contributions of time, talent and treasure by Eagle Rock Residents, and a few supporters who now reside far away from Eagle Rock but harbor fond memories of where they were raised.
Time and Talent:
A generous contribution of time and talent was noted a few nights ago when we conducted an orientation meeting for table facilitators, who will guide the conversations at the January 19 Take Back the Boulevard Community Meeting. For this training session, around the table were members of the TERA Board and the Steering Committee for Take Back the Boulevard, several individuals representing the Council Office of District 14, a professional planner from Glendale, and friends and neighbors, all who agreed to donate their time and talent to the improvement of our main street. Remarkably, during the two hour training session, a strong camaraderie developed, in spite of the fact that several at the meeting had only met that evening. There is no better way of getting to quickly know new people than to work with them collaboratively on a common goal. Their unanimous dedication to improving the Eagle Rock Community, their ability to quickly grasp the concepts that will be discussed at the meeting, and their impressive track records as group facilitators made this a very impressive newly formed team. This is an excellent example of the generosity of time and talent.
Treasure:
Treasure is also an important component of the support that has enabled the Eagle Rock Association to work for the betterment of Eagle Rock for over 25 years. Included in this eLetter is a list of all of those who, through their membership dues, enable this organization to meet our modest operating expenses. More importantly, because of the generosity of our members and all those who support our annual fund-raiser, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, TERA is able to make grants to other community organizations in support of their worthy initiatives. More recent examples of TERA's financial outreach include contributions to the Chamber of Commerce security camera initiative, the Veteran's Day / Centennial Parade and a significant commitment of dollars to the Take Back the Boulevard. Below you will find a list of TERA's active membership.
In every newsletter I urge non-member readers to become members. If your name is not listed below, join your friends and neighbors by going to http://www.tera90041.org/join-paypal.htm where you will find a Paypal link for new members. New members will be acknowledged in future eLetters. Most importantly, for those whose name is listed, the entire TERA board thanks you for your important support!
TERA Board Updates:
TERA Board members are individuals who give it all, time, treasure and talent. Please join me in welcoming our newest board member - Michelle Espinosa Coulter. Below you will find greetings from Michelle. Her broad range of development experience and commitment to quality of life in Eagle Rock will make her contributions on the board extremely valuable. It is a distinct privilege to welcome Michelle to the TERA board. Greetings from Michelle will be found below.
Keith Louie has been on the TERA board for eight years. During that period Keith's has been an important and informed voice as TERA examined projects and issues. Over the years Keith made considerable contributions to the success of TERA's public meetings. It is with great appreciation and sadness that the board accepts Keith's resignation. TERA was only one of the ways in which Keith demonstrated his concern for Eagle Rock. He is also a member of the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council Land Use & Planning Committee. Thank you for all you do for Eagle Rock Keith!
Important Meetings:
January has proven to be no exception to the rule that there's a lot going on in our community. I strongly urge you to attend the meetings listed below. Reading the eLetter and other publications can give you some sense of what is happening. But there is no substitute for being in the room. Being there also allows your voice to be part of the conversation, to pose the questions that may occur to no one else. Be there to speak for what you support. There is no substitute for being there.

Greetings from Michelle Espinosa Coulter - New Board Member
It is a privilege and honor to serve with such a wonderful group of community members.
I have been an Eagle Rock homeowner since 2007. I am employed by the Meta Housing Corporation - and specialize in the development of affordable housing.
I bring a broad array of diverse professional skills with a strong interest in the built environment to TERA's Board. Professionally I have been developing affordable, multifamily housing since 2006. I credit my previous seven-year career in public accounting with giving me an understanding of development finance. At UCLA's Masters in Urban Planning program, I honed my philosophy of community building and land use policy. I also hold undergraduate and graduate degrees in Accounting from Texas A&M University, and am a former CPA.
A quality built environment for all is a fundamental component of a high quality of life. My belief in a vibrant, inspiring, and sustainable community where all people can work, learn and live, motivated me to accept the invitation to join the TERA Board.
I am absolutely in love with my husband Chris and our two-year-old daughter Siena. Thanks for giving me this opportunity to serve the Eagle Rock Community.
Michelle Espinosa Coulter

Community Meeting This Thursday - see following article.

The meeting this Thursday (January 19, at 7:00 p.m.) is the chance for you to express your personal opinion regarding what changes would be the most desirable in order to help Colorado Boulevard better serve the Eagle Rock Community.
At the first meeting in September, the community was invited to think about the many ways that Colorado Boulevard could be improved. No decisions were made regarding what alternatives would be pursued.
As a follow up to the September meeting, it is now necessary to consider alternatives more carefully and begin to understand with some specificity, what changes are the most desired by Eagle Rock community members. This is a key step in identifying the specific desired deliverables of the initiative and ultimately creating a plan for the new vision of Colorado Boulevard in Eagle Rock.
Please plan to join us on January 19 and be part of the process as we determine how our Main Street, Colorado Boulevard, can better serve Eagle Rock. Your voice is important!

Jane Tsong writes: Eagle Rock's Centennial year has come and gone, but the twenty four surviving trees planted on Colorado and York Boulevard by the Centennial Street Tree Planting (organized by the Urban Forest Collaborative) are on their way to leaving a lasting legacy of shade, clean air, and greenery for future generations.
Is there a spot on our major boulevards that you think could use a tree? Some funding exists to plant another round of trees this winter, but gathering permissions from property owners to plant on their properties is our biggest challenge, and can only happen with enough volunteer commitment. Most of the existing greenery in our streetscapes exists because of the efforts of committed community members. Please contact urbanforestcollaborativeATgmailDOTcom to volunteer.

5036 Ellenwood / Pulte Group / Mosaic Project:
A representative of the Pulte Group made a presentation to the TERA Board regarding the plans for this project. Renderings (above) show what the structures will look like from a front door perspective as well as from the common driveway that will be located in the center of the project. The TERA Board takes the following position on this project:
Recently TERA reconsidered the project at 5036 Ellenwood Drive that had earned our support in 2009.
In 2009 Heydey announced a new development at 5036 Ellenwood Drive. Heydey had previously developed the very successful Rock Row project on Yosemite. TERA reviewed that project, reaching a decision to support the project. Heydey's Ellenwood project was to be an improved version the very contemporary project at Rock Row.
In August of 2011 Heydey sold the undeveloped property to the Pulte Group, a nationally recognized and prominent home builder. Recently, a representative of the Pulte Group presented to the TERA Board an overview of the project as now envisioned by Pulte
Using the prior project as a baseline, we contrasted the Heydey and Pulte plans, with a special focus on identifying the pros and cons of the new plan.
Construction is expected to begin by the end of January. A sales office and a model will be available in April with the goal for all units to be sold by December,2012. The units will be offered in the low $500's. Call 866.283.8775 if you have questions for Pulte.
Chase Bank Relocation:
Renderings of what the building will look like after remodeling are not yet available to TERA. However, those who have seen the plans indicate that the building will be transformed into a much more attractive structure. It was possible to confirm that Chase Bank intends to close the branch currently located on Eagle Rock Boulevard once they have occupied the new location.

Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock - Chasm of the Supernova Artists: Matthew Monahan, Tomory Dodge, Michael Rey, Pearl C. Hsiung, Brad Spence, lara Schnitger, Roger Herman, Erich Bollman, Annie Lapin, Kim Fisher, Josh Peters, Melise Mestayer, Ali Smith, Florian Morlat, Devon Oder, & Adam Miller.
Chasm of the Supernova will feature works by fifteen Los Angeles based artists. When larger stars die they end their lives with a catastrophic supernova, one of the brightest and most powerful events in the universe. After the violent destructive phenomenon subsides, a neutron star or a black hole will remain where the star previously inhabited. This celestial act of death can be viewed as a catalyst for an eternal void which is the black hole, but also acts as the impetus for the most vibrant and dramatic action in the known universe. Similar to the supernova, the artist's chosen for this exhibition make highly refined and articulated gestures that lead the audience to a confrontation with a moment of instability; harmony and chaos abound in these pieces. The exhibition can be divided into two parts; the Explosive and the Speculative.
The exhibition Chasm of the Supernova takes fifteen artists and exams the implications of discordance between energetic entropy and restraint. Half of the works are reflexive ruminations on the chaotic and disruptive forces that inundate the individual's turbulent path. While the rest of the works use gesture, color, and mark making to create anarchic compositions. Through refined, calculated, and controlled gestures, whether it's application of paint, color choices, compositions, or pop cultural references, all of these works lead to moments of reflection and beauty among the chaos.
